I would like to migrate from MTN to Vodacom.

What is the correct procedure to follow in doing this? My contract expires in April.

Why would you willingly go to Vodacom? I migrated from MTN to Cell C a month ago. I instructed MTN to put me on Pay As You Go (prepaid) when my contract ended. Then I went to a Cell C branch and had them port me for my contract with them. If you tell MTN to cancel you will lose your number.

You need to phone the cancellation department one month before your contract expires. Make sure you tell them to convert the number to prepaid or else it will be deleted. Don't do a port while your contract is still active on MTN as they will charge you a cancellation fee. Once the number is on prepaid you can port to any network. The new network will do a port request and move you over. You will lose any airtime / benefits on the old network once you port, so make sure to use this up beforehand.

This sounds like a safer option. How do you find Cell C so far? Reception etc?

Thank you. It makes more sense to do it this way.

Reception is fine in PE. Data speeds are good. Only real difference from MTN is how much I'm paying.

Just make sure it is at least one month, otherwise they will say you didnt give enough notice and continue to bill you for the next month. Bastards. I'm sure the Consumer Protection Act made it THEIR responsibility to ASK YOU if you would like to continue month to month, but there is no enforcement of the CPA so they continue to do whatever they want until you start arguing.

As for PE reception in western suburbs, it is crap. Edge most of the time, and when I phone my family in PE from Jozi, it always cuts out and sounds like they are all sitting inside a tin can.
