Opinion: 9 scariest games ever

I definitely agree with FEAR and System Shock 2. One of the things that made SS2 so scary is the random spawns on enemies. You would clear an area, move away and when you came back you run into an enemy while rounding the corner. There is also the messages, ghost and whispers that you here constantly in the game.

That could be said for Bioshock as well. Same idea, with random enemies and ghosts... Bioshock wasn't all that scary though, just immensely creepy (and GOOD).

Doom 3 was the worst for me... I played through it before the patch with the flashlight on the pistol/shotgun was released. Fear was freaky, but I wasn't as phased as I was playing Doom

Half-Life: that one stage in the old town ... Ravensholm? or something.

Luigi's Mansion. J/k.... Hm ok scariest games. I don't know why it is that games can be so much scarier than movies. I think it's the control you have over the character, and the immersion into the screen. Resident Evil was one of the least scary games though...just schlock 'boo' tactics. System Shock 2 definitely - I couldn't finish the game.

Silent Hill 3 (PC)

Freaks me out beyond belief.

Doom 3, FEAR, Bioshock - no problem. Silent Hill? /me cries like a little girl.

AVP...... hectic.

crysis was also kinda freaky to me when you're inside the ship, with those shouting aliens....... *shivers*

Eternal Darkness for the GameCube.
Now that's what I call a scary game.

Operation Flashpoint

Scary as hell knowing any minute you could be dead and have to start all over again from a checkpoint you passed long ago. When the bullets start whizzing by your face needing just one too kill you and there is no cover out in the vast open world had me ****ting myself :o

:D

Then I can say World of Warcraft is just as scary. Hiding in the shadows while a Boss monster walks a few meters away. Said Boss can kill you in two shots.

As for Bioshock, while it had similar factors as System Shock 2, it wasn't as bad. SS2 had weapons that degraded. And having your shotgun break while a zombie is storming you with a pipe is not a pleasant experience. Bioshock felt more like a cheap ripoff of SS2 with better graphics. Everything else was simplified, making it more boring.

Not if the game looks like a cartoon. which it does...

I remember paying Phantasmagoria: Puzzle of the flesh in high school, prolly the scariest Ive played.
