Hi all.

Well my HomeDSL 1024 has been down for exactly one week tomorrow. I have had enough of telscum crap and have decided to start trying out other service providers.

iBurst are coming to my house tomorrow to setup for me. They said I have a 7 day period in which I may request a full refund if not happy. Before they even get here, I would like to know from existing iBurst users what they think of the service and how reliable it is.

I am in Hurlyvale, Edenvale in St Dominic Rd, Gauteng. Pls be honest. I need reliablity first and foremost as I run my business from my house and rely on my internet connection most of the day.

I am looking for comments related to signal strength, reliablity and speeds in my particular area please.

hrmm i cant talk about your area, but if you get a good signal you should be fine... it also depends on your tower in your particular area. if it is saturated then you are in bad luck.

try it for 7 days and remember iBurst also has it's bad days.

A weeks downtime wont generally be seen with Iburst though, its more common to have small outages with your iburst connection.

But it is possible to stay connected the entire month without one disconnect.

That is encouraging news. I don't mind a few hours and can even deal with a day. A week of downtime spurs murderous thoughts.

Iburst is an excellent choice. I have never seen Iburst down for more than an hour. And their support isn`t that bad!

Hey Mike

We are re-sellers for i-burst, and I personally stay in Edenvale myself. I have a permanent connection at home through I-Burst, and in the last month have been down the max of an hour. With the Isando tower going up, it has helped aleviate some congestion on the Edenvale and Linksfield towers.

Mike, I have to agree with the previous posts. Downtime is never more than 2 hours at a time, if that long. If you find your sweet spot, you are good to go.

For the first time in about 4 months I got speeds on our 1024k ADSL that I get on iBurst

Their support use to be terrible! but as of recent times they seem to answer their calls within 50 seconds which can't be said the same for Teleskum!

If you are wondering about speeds for VPN then it's not a good option as you might experience significant pack loss due to the constant tower switching.

Once you find that sweet spot the connection is a pleasure! no glitch no fuss :D

Now and then you might get that Cap of Death - this is when you reach your cap there will be no more browsing any sites (a quick phone call usually gets solved by iburst giving you a free gig bandwidth - thereafter you'll have to tell me. EDIT: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=41064 this answers it)

Speeds for downloads are awesome anything between 50-129kbps speeds (if you use a multi-thread download manager you will reach the 129k, dependent on your signal)

before I use to experience problems trying to connect when it's raining but this past thunderstorm has shown me that they have improved :D

With iBurst your most important consideration is your signal strength. If you have weak signal then you'll have a terrible experience. This can be mitigated somewhat with an external antenna but you may want to consider 3G if you don't have good coverage. I had excellent signal while I used iBurst and the service was very reliable, although I wasn't using it for business like you will be. Another bonus with iBurst is that after you're capped you don't get cut off but are limited to 64K speeds (equivalent of dialup) so you can still surf international and get email, etc. (This only applies to the 2GB and up accounts).

i myself am looking for a good provider, and i think iburst is the way to go... i have looked all over the internet, and you actually get more offers than you think you would: goggaconnect was the closest one to offer a reliable service, but nahh...it sounded too tricky... if i were you i would just worry about the coverage in your area...

Just btb, if your line has been down for a week, you are the only one to blame for not putting enough pressure on Telkom to fix it. How many times did you call? How many managers have you bugged? etc...

I usually get my line fixed in an hour if its down.

 You are lucky.A customer of mine,a CEO of a Bluechip Corportaion couldn't come right, was down for 8 business days, threatened legal action even *you know how these big boys like to play* and was told : 'Sorry We can't give you an ETA we don't have any available engineers', lol

Maybe they don't have any engineers ! :p :D

i checked on http://www.iburst.co.za/mapsystem/index.html and my house is in an "Outdoor Indoor 0.226Mbps" zone :/
my house happens to fall right in the middle of a few "Good Indoor" zones...

@BroadbandICTHoldings,
do you know about future plans with more towers etc? can i PM you and show you my area on the map?

Always get someone to come out and test. My area was shown as totally out of range of any signal. Yet I have one of the quickest and most stable connections :p

Sorry boet can't say everything is very tight lipped.......things are progressing at a rapid rate though.........I don't quite think that 2 base stations a week is gonna be easy, although only 3 days into the week and a new Jozi Station went live today :D

I will see what I can dig up for you! PM me your details, I don't mind assisting you.

I would say get a local DBN Reseller out to test preferbly someone that does't charge to test a signal..... I know I don't :D
