Hi Guys, might have an interesting opportunity to own a Jaguar (2014 XF 3.0 Premium) which peaked my interest because its something out of the ordinary BMW, Audi, Merc.

I have heard that Jaguar has never been great on the reliability front, has anyone here owned or known someone to own a late model Jaguar that might be able to spill the beans on any issues they have had? Service issues from dealerships etc?

Any opinions on Jaguar in general?

My Dad had 2008 XJR and now a 2014 XKR.

The XJR gave endless problems with the electronics (seats, tyre pressure sensors etc.) but always performed well. Services were often (on account of the 'lectronics hiccups) and on the expensive side. However the current XKR has been going perfectly for over a year now. What a beast to drive :>

Since they were bought by Tata.. they're considerably better on the reliability front.

As for the opportunity, if the price is right TAKE IT!... and I'll hate you until I can justify buying one myself.

If my google fu is right, the engine is from Ford and is shared across the XF and XJ, a couple Land Rovers and a bunch of Citroens. Transmission is the same as what you'd find in most auto BMWs. Make of that what you will.

Personally I think 5 years ago I would've said pass, but today I think they are essentially the same in terms of reliability as their German counterparts

No opinion on the car, but it's 'piqued' not peaked :)

An excellent second hand buy I think, especially if you plan to hold onto it for a little bit.

Wouldn't have one new because of the depreciation...which I hope affects the F-type VERY BADLY in the next few years. :)

Don't hesitate!

Magnificent cars and are so much nicer than having an equivalent Merc or BMW :)

The AJ-V6 used in the XF is derived from the Ford Duratec V6, but with variable valve timing, continuously variable cam-phasing and variable geometry air intakes. The original Duratec was developed by Porsche, Ford and Cosworth. A really decent motor.
