OppiKoppi Cancelled

For 24 years, OppiKoppi has been going great guns. Unfortunately, in 2018 we experienced the rampant crime currently impacting events and festivals across South Africa. For us to present the 2019 event with the increased security measures that are required to curb this crime to present a safe and enjoyable festival, the production costs also increase drastically.

I guess it was bound to happen at some point. I have some amazing memories of the various Koppies' I have been privileged to enjoy since mid 2000's until my last one in 2013. The people, the atmosphere and the general good vibes started going downhill from about 2010 onwards as the "festival dynamics" evolved.

Here's hoping the organisers might bring back the good vibes that Koppi was always known for!

yup i agree
i did Afrikaburn 7 years in a row from 2011 - 2017 but never again, too crowded with white trash everywhere nowadays

At Oppikoppi neither of those are of concern due to the overwhelming abundance of dust.

2012 and 2013 was a bit of a turning point for me as the number of people just skyrocketed and it became too "modern". I enjoyed the early morning stumble from the stage into random strangers campsites and just kuiering until the sun comes up, only to find your campsite right opposite theirs! Good times
 
My last was 2017 and never again. completely different vibe. The organisers did all they could but times are a changing and the thing is dead. There was crazy theft going on. One poor guy in Mordor had his whole tent stolen, they pulled the pins out and dragged the whole thing away. I stayed in Harambee the last 2 years and it was better but I do agree that the old Koppie we know and love is long gone. Such a shame. Ive been to about 15 of them and it was a reunion of sorts as well and friendships i'll never forget.
 
Been to plenty, very fond memories of one or two of them, the rest I can't remember, but I got the T-Shirt so I guess it was great XD

Sucks that security brings such an event to cancel.

the dude was sitting on a branch against the trunk of the tree and the girl in front of himboth facing down the hill , I was about 4 meters away when I passed and they looked fairly innocent but as I passed there was some thrusting and groaning and her shirt was pulled up for easy access.... I think they thought I was past already and wouldnt see
