S talk show queen Oprah Winfrey opened her second school for poor South African youth on Friday, this one an innovative, environment-friendly institution she hopes will be a model for public education in this country.

The Seven Fountains Primary School outside the remote town of Kokstad in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal province was funded by Oprah's Angel Network, a public charity that supports organisations and projects focused on, among other issues, education and literacy.

"The Seven Fountains School is an example of what schools in SA can become," said Winfrey at the formal dedication of the schools where lessons began earlier this year.

Today's children need the discipline. It is a fundamental deficit. No need to do any ghoulish experiments.
ghoulish? We're probably not on the same page here. ;)

Making a kid's life a living hell does not equate to 'discipline'.

You realise biltong is probably regarded as 'junk food', right?

Banning it should be considered a human rights abuse if you ask me. :p

And this would prove of disprove that wouldn't it?

And seriously - hell?

I reserve the right to use hyperbole. ;)

I heard Oprah on the news, saying the parents can take out their kids and wai, if they're not happy with the rules, the rules stay.
Welcome to SA! Guess she didn't expect the levels of SA ungratefullness, and demands :D
If you get something for free, and a great opportunity (which this is for all of the girls), then get with the program, or go.
Some of the rules sound a bit harsh to me too, not being one for so much strict discipline :p , but I guess she did the research, and she believes this is a good start for young kids. I had many friends whose parents were also very strict, not being allowed a lot of the things many other kids took for granted, and they also turned out as well adjusted adults :)

Biltong?!?!?! Junk food?

That would be the end of the world as we know it....

On a more real note, personally I have no problem with strict discipline, esp if the parents agreed to it in the first place. I often walk past my old high school and see what the lack of discipline has done to the students, it looks scummy now....
