Opt out of MTN?

I recently (two months ago) got caught up in a lot of hype surrounding the Samsung Omnia. At that stage, my Vodacom contract was up for renewal, but Vodacom didn't (yet) have the Omnia. MTN did, so I moved networks in pursuit of the phone.

Well, the Omnia was a massive disappointment for me, and I sold it on immediately and got a Nokia E71 instead. I'm very happy with the Nokia, by the way - the best phone I've ever had.

But I wish I could say the same about MTN. I'm on the Anytime750 package, and in a direct comparison to the costs I used to have on a Vodacom Talk500, the MTN situation works out significantly (about R400 per month) more expensive. Add to that the fact that you can only increase your credit limit after three months with MTN, and that they "suspend" your service without warning as soon as your account goes over a certain threshold, and you can see why I'm not happy.

To me their service seems quite poor in general, even though the reception and data functionality is fine.

However, the time has come to say goodbye to MTN - sooner rather than later. But now I've signed a 24-month contract. When I went to pick up my Omnia (oh how I dread even thinking about it), the salesman mentioned a opt-out clause in the MTN contract. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the contract, nor does their website have any info. I've trawled through mybroadband as well, with no joy.

Can anybody please let me know what the situation is if I want to leave MTN right now? I would expect to have to pay in for the phone, obviously, but what about the rest of the contract?

Oh and another thing...

The reason I reach my credit limit so easily, is because I subscribe to additional services, such as extra data and SMS bundles. The fees for those services get added onto my basic call plan, and then those get added to my additional calls (out of bundle). The moment it reaches the threshold, my service is suspended.

But by the time that happens, I have used only a few SMSes, and less than half my data bundle - items I've paid for!!! But when my service is suspended, ALL acticities (except for incoming calls) stop working. Including the items I specifically pad extra for.

Surely this is wrong?
