Hi all.

I bought a dual cpu opteron system from USA in 2006. It is dead now.
I can't find anyone who can check the components for me, I'm sure some of the components are still OK but the ram is dead for sure.

You need some 667 ECC Reg Ram to test it out.

Although this system is rather old now it smoked when I got it and was very responsive. It also has some sentimental value to me as I learned C++/QT on it. I can also get some cheap Barcelona's to make it a 8 core, for the hell of it. :)

Can anyone help me please?

Caps?

It is a tedious process, but if you have the time then you will have to check all the components 1 by 1. Starting with the power supply, cpu's, ram etc. Another thing is to examine the board for any damage like caps etc...

I have a Abit BP6 dual celeron board which died about 3 years ago. Examined the board closely and saw that the caps had blown. Replaced them with a friend and she is still humming along now. It was my first system I built with my own money. Cost me close to R20k in 1999 with a 19' CRT..

There was a surge through the modem.

Only the mother board and the CPU's need to be tested.

The POST code was ASUS ram or video.

Video is fine. The ram is dead.

I need to find out if the MB and CPU's are fine.

I don't have ECC REG ram close by.

How many stick do you need to test with? If one then maybe just use speed services, cheap & quick.

Thanks for trying.
Frontosa Midrand is going to have a look.
Mahala!!!
They are close.

Cool, let me know if you want them, i can send tomorrow morning and you'll have them on Wednesday.

Probably be nice to have 4GB's ram in that duallie anyway;)

Thanks, if they say all is OK I'll let you know.:)

How many ram slots has that board got?

If it's 8 I might have another 4x1GB modules lying around in case that puppy still works.

I went to drop it of today.
I bought an i7 920 but the smackover board had the wrong driver cd and back plate. Crazy cheap smackover OEM bundle.
They replaced those and I'm waiting to hear if all is ok with the opteron.

Will shout as soon as I hear.

Thanks all.
