Hi,

I am trying to get an Option Nozomi HSDPA datacard up and running under Ubuntu Edgy Eft (kernel 2.6) on a Proline laptop.

I have tried the HOWTO (Card Setup) but am having some irritating hassles from the word go. My PCMCIA services are running fine (I've used a WLAN card in this slot and it works fine).

When I insert the datacard all I get in the logs is:
Code:
Apr 12 11:34:20 richard-laptop kernel: [17180211.968000] pccard: CardBus card inserted into slot 0

If I run:

Code:
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x0af0 product=0x5000

and copy vmc_g to /etc/modutils/ (No /etc/modules.d in edgy eft)
I get the following added to the logs:

Code:
Apr 12 11:34:53 richard-laptop kernel: [17180245.272000] usbcore: registered new driver usbserial
Apr 12 11:34:53 richard-laptop kernel: [17180245.272000] drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for generic
Apr 12 11:34:53 richard-laptop kernel: [17180245.272000] usbcore: registered new driver usbserial_generic
Apr 12 11:34:53 richard-laptop kernel: [17180245.272000] drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial Driver core

and if I eject and re-insert the datacard I get no change, so I cannot find where my card is located to continue with the installation.

Any help would be appreciated,

Richard

Well I sorted the problem out. Turns out all I needed to do was install the Nozomi HSDPA drivers at the beginning, after that it really was a piece of cake.

Another Question:

Is there any way to force the Nozomi datacard to use a specific access, i.e. GPRS, EDGE, 3G or HSDPA?

thanking you.

You can set it into "2G only" or "3G only" mode ... This basically means GPRS/EDGE only or 3G/HSDPA only ... you cannot limit it to just say GPRS..

Normally just use the extra options in Tazz_Tux's wvdial.conf .. such as "2gonly"
Just add "2gonly" to your dialup command.. (e.g., wvdial hsdpa internet 2gonly)

Although it doesn't always seem to work outright...

When I had an Option Nozomi, I used a tool I found called comgt: http://sourceforge.net/projects/comgt
It allows you to control the card a bit.. - worked for me.
