Hi Guys,

Are there any differences in price, service or technology with regards to optometrists?

I need a new pair of specs and trying to find the best place to go which isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg to sort out my eyes but still get top frames and lenses.

Was looking at spectacle warehouse, specsavers, spilkin... none of those private practices as they seemed to be overpriced.

Thanks!

If you in the JHB area PM I have an optometrists I use for all my wellness days and at certain companies, she is registered with all major medical aid schemes and is extremely reasonable.

Yes there is some with regards to technology. For example Torga has their own "in-house" (so does Spec Savers apparently) anti-glare and transitions type tint. This is cheaper than the brand name, kind of like a generic equivalent. And it works out much cheaper, I have not tried the transitions type tint but I have the anti-glare from Torga and it feels the same like the one I got from other places. Then again I don't know if the anti-glare is all the same. But the original transitions is expensive.
