Hey Guys,

I've been trying to install the orange box again the whole weekend. Many tries and then I cancel, cause it is taking forever to install. I started this morning again and it is still on the first cd. :O

Anyone maybe know why?

You sure it's not trying to download the files instead of copying them off the CD itself?

Wel, I now inserted my original disk, it auto-ran, and I clicked install, but at the speed it is going I am thinking it is downloading the files as well. Just to make sure, it will only download the game if I right click on it in steam and say install without having the cd in...?

Cannot install games while steam is in offline mode and if you connect, log onto steam and then disconnect and try to install the game, it says that the steam servers are to busy. :( Surely it can't be this difficult to install games. ;(

Wait a bit until Web Africa local steam server is online. Then it won't matter whether it downloads it or not (assuming you buy some WA cap).

btw, how much did you pay for it?

I have submitted a question to steam. Lets check how long it takes them to sort this out for me. :(

Edit: I am now installing COD MW2 and steam shows that it is downloading, but I cannot see what. The game is loading from the disks though.

There is a problem with steam if you run it before you are connected. Do a <ctrl-alt-del> and kill the steam process then restart it.

It also doesn't like to go away when your PC shuts down. Bad coding I guess.

I'm giving this a try...

The first one didn't work, cause I keep on getting "AI" Disabled and all the solutions on the net haven't worked.

Trying the second one now.

I Am Going To Insist That Steam/Valve Sent Me The Content On A Dvd, Free Off Charge, Cause It's Their Fsking Fault That I Am Struggling Like This.

Edit: Second option worked. At least I can play now.

Made images.
Mostly does not work with Valve games. Maybe with Alcohol if you select the right options, but it won't be a 1:1 image.

Does that when trying to play on a cracked/sketchy copy of the game. e.g. One installed from a poor image.

Won't be able to play online afaik. Warden will catch it.

Best bet is to nuke the whole thing and start from the start using the physical DVDs.

so i just got my copy of The Orange Box from Amazon and I will be traveling to my home town and I do not have ADSL up there... Some guys on the Take 2 site said its possible to activate offline by:

"its easy, just download steam (1,5 mb), install, update (10 mb), and put it into offline mode <- then you can decrypt it offline. "

I am thinking of getting the orange box as well.

Quick question before I rush off and buy this. How many gigs of downloads am I looking at to update all of the games with Orange box?

But does it really have to update? Cant we play at all before the updates?

You can prevent steam from updating a specific game after it's been installed. But I don't know how well it works since it starts downloading the update the moment the installation from disc is finished and you can't play the game before it's finished downloading.

Well, CODMW2 works like that.

I know. I have the original and can't get it installed, that is why I am using the cracked version.

Don't want to play online, want to play HL2, Ep1 and Ep2 again, that's all.

Different pc and using the original disks and stil does the same. Steam has sent me a solution, which doesn't work.

The only way you are going to play this game without internet, is to crack it like I had to do in my previous post.
