I have been searching for a handset for a while now and have been considering purchasing from orange. Their prices change every day and 80% of their handset are out of stock. I have also noticed that they charge a higher price on a popular colour of the same handset.

Xperia Z ultra : was 3500 now 3700

Huawei G7 : was 3000,then 3150,3200 and now 3300

LG G3 s : white handset more expensive than the black one

Galaxy S5 prices constantly changing

S4 old but overpriced.

Orange is extremely shady. I will never buy a handset from them. I can understand that the exchange rate influences prices but the price changes everyday on the orange site.

Handsets are the cheapest when the website states out of stock. Shady!

They import at the time when you place your order, so have no local stock. That is why exchange rates affect their prices so much.

That isnt entirely correct. This isnt an amazon like service. Expansys is a big company and negotiate prices with their partners/suppliers. Prices are negotiated in advance. It isnt possible to have variations in prices everyday.

If they buy in rand yes. But surely they don't.

In £ . Not in ZAR. To put this in context, If the price of an item on Expansys is £150, and you add 30% for courier, duty and comma...that would translate to £195 selling price on Orange.

If the rate of exchange on the day is 17.8, then the price is of the device would be R3471 . A few days later, the exchange rate is 18.3....the price would be R3568. Considering that the rate to the pound can change by 5-6% in a few days....it is not unexpected for the price of a £200 item to vary in price by R300-R400

This is the GBP-ZAR graph for the last few months:
