Anyone know if there is organic sherry and where to find it in Gauteng. I know of a few wines but have not seen any sherry yet.

Technically speaking, all alcohols are organic, as the hydroxyl-carbon compound is an organic one. :D

To be honest though, I don't see the big deal in organic alcohols. Many of the fertilizers intended for wine farms are specifically produced to help boost certain natural flavour compounds within the grapes themselves. You're just going to pay through your nostrils for the same product, as it is unlikely anyone could possibly taste the difference after the fortification process...

Organic wine is a bit of a grey area. It is very difficult to produce wine without using sulphur to control the fermentation. Also, it depends what your definition of organic is... and my I ask your motivation for wanting and organic wine?

Often enough the lack of control in the organic winemaking process (from fruit to wine) produces large variation in final quality. For this reason I think it would be difficult to produce an organic sherry as the risk of amplifying off-flavours (through reduction and distillation of the base wine) is too high and most producers can't afford that risk.

Ok - The reason I want organic is that it does not contain sulpher, The sulpher is causing alergic reactions to a lot of my friends and family. Habe tested it with organic wine and they have no reaction to it.

No matter how organic you wish to go, all wine contains sulphites to some degree...
