I have reinstalled Battlefield 3 and so Origin several times for various reasons but every time I do so I have to download the updates, the latest one being 3.9gig. Is there away that I can save those updates that I have now downloaded so I can use them in the future, as I plan on formatting my PC very soon?

Sure fire way would be to back up the entire Battlefield 3 directory. But if you want to try, there is a folder called updates in the battlefield 3 directory.

That fold is roughly 250mb which is weird as the last update was 3.9gig. So I really don't think that'll do the trick.

When the beta came out, I got a copy of the installed client from a friend. I just dumped it into the origin games folder, pointed Origin to that folder (it should already look there) and it just "installed" in a few minutes. No need to download anything else so I would assume it works the same.

What exactly do you mean by a 'copy of the installed client'. and does this apply to patches for battlefield 3. The origin update are small and easy to get.

What i normally do is i run Synctoy and choose the echo option. So when the program is running, it goes threw the hole battlefield directory and see what is new and copy only the new files. When i do my pc over, i just run origin to download the battlefield 3 folder, then i pause it, copy my battlefield 3 directory over and then resume the download. That would be like a minute then origin say the battlefield is installed.

Go into Origin, click settings, under the "General" tab, tick "Keep install files"
In the path folder, choose where BF3 should save your updates.
If you did this right from the start there should be two folders there, with the latest 3.9GB patch in a folder called "Xpack1"

Thanks for all the advise but now that I've done the Format, it seemed to work by just copying the whole battlefield directory but when I try play online it kicks me off the server, something to do with Punkbuster. Now considering I formated my PC I assume PB is not installed, so I went and installed BF3 again to install PB, during the install it went and downloaded the very large patch again. What am I doing wrong? aaah

Manually download punkbuster from their website. Remember to add battlefield 3 in the punkbuster application.

That Should sort it out.

Jeez man, i feel your pain!

There are known punkbuster issues though, so I wonder if redownloading the patch again will help?

Anyways I hope you get it sorted out soon!
