Original Xbox enquiry

I met a chap over New years that was running an original Xbox in his car as a media centre. How much do the original units cost these days and are they easy to come by?

Second hand you're looking @ R1000-R2000. Depends on what extra's are included.

Good luck finding parts if it gives you a problem though. eBay is your friend internationally, but locally it's a mission.

Those old xbox 1 don't give problems, mine still running strong after 6 years.

popped in a 300 gig hard drive, and work perfectly as a media centre.

there use to be guys in alberton fixing them called console corner, but they seemed to have closed.

I beg to differ. I've gotten calls/e-mails with guys having DVD-ROM and other issues with the Xbox 1.

No console is immune to a problem. For instance, my old PS2 had a dead motherboard (once) and a laser issue (twice).

Still, the original Xbox is a great addition to any console collection

ja.. i have an xbox one and the dvd drive has just gone on the fritz... and good luck trying to find a replacement.. but having said that.. as a media centre.. nothing comes close

if you wanting it just as a media centre.. there are linux/mac/windows ports of xbox media centre.. so you could just build your own pc and use that.. XBMC even boots directly from a flash drive now...

If you know someone in the UK, they could get you a 2nd hand one from any Game.co.uk retail stores. They always have a few in stock. I i remember correctly, they are about £100 (+-R1400) boxed with all cables, tested and have 2 games free (if you want them?).

Bought my original Xbox in 2004. It has travelled all over the the UK, and through SA and still works without problems

I've noticed 2nd hand Xbox's going on gumtree.co.za for around R600. Just keep checking them regularly.

Anyone know where I can get my original XBox repaired? I think my power source is fried.

Kudos to MS on having an external power supply on the 360; makes things a lot easier if you need it replaced.

Not sure what happened to console corner, but I think defcon 5 in pta would also do this. But a standard pc unit could work as well as it is based on a pc anyway.

BT Games are selling pre-owned consoles (Original XBOX) for $47 here in Aus and games are cheap too
