OS X Mountain Lion Golden Master has been sent to developers. This is Apple's equivelant of Windows going RTM. This means that the retail Mac App Store version should be available in a few days. The app store version and the GM version should be identical.

Looking at buying a MBP in-store next week, while overseas. Wonder if they will install the new OS there and then, or will I have to use the free update option?

It won't be released in that timeframe... I.e. free upgrade option

Most Apple related websites are saying that Mountain Lion will be released on 25 July. MacBooks from that day onwards shouldl have Mountain Lion preloaded.

Did both; upgrade on my MBP / Mac Minis and fresh install on iMac.
