So since they don't need bed Where did the money go the last 15 years that was suppose to buy the beds?

( I don't think the ANC will like it if Pistorius goes to jail , the media attention it will get will show them in a bad light Worldwide. I was waiting for this to happen.

Holding cells aren't intended for long-term stay-overs.

Yes, I understand that but if you are going to be kept for more than 24 hours? Should you stay awake? Can it be seen as torturing a witness to get him to confess ( Lawyers will do many things) Keep him in a cell and awake, deprive him of sleep?

Was thinking the same thing. You don't send national heroes and flag bearers to jail.

Reeva isn't important enough for justice to be served.

Create enough doubt about intent and Oscar goes free.

Probably not if the accused's legal team put forward the request for him to remain there... ;)

I get that ( and this is not about Pistorius for me) I'm thinking if you are caught speeding on a Friday night you will sit in jail till about Tuesday. Are they not abusing some sort of human right?
Surely there is holding cells that has beds and some that is just holding cells?

Maybe as a condition of his bail, he hands his legs in to a court official.?
 
Police stations dont have beds, usually 2 concrete "benches" that serve as seating by day and "bed" at night. He will have a thin foam mattres or 2.
Be assured, all his meals will be brought to him by family and friends - no watery tea and jam sandwiches for him.

I am more than certain he has his own cell - not shared, despite the good station commander's claim as to not being certain. The last thing saps needs is something to happen to him in the cell while he is in their custody.

Jail is jail, you breakthe law you pay the price now they wanna go into detail about what is happening what he eats everything they focusing too much on Oscar he messed up so he can sleep on the floor

If your are caught on a Friday evening you will sit ti the first available court appearance which is Monday.

You will not be held that long for speeding or drunk driving unless there is an added charge of reckless and negligent driving.

Since when are beds a human right, you get a thick piece of felt as a mattress and two grey blankets like you get a spaza shop

I wonder if they takes his legs away when he is in the cell, according to regulations they should as anything that can be used to harm yourself our others should be removed and booked into the property register

I have heard about people that sat until Tuesday because the court is busy.

By law you have to be brought before a court within 48 hrs.
Many people do not realise that the 48 hrs are court operating hours - not 48 as per clock.
In a worst case scenario, if one gets arrested on a wednesday evening, you could only be taken to court on the following monday as the 48 hrs will expire fri eve (courts do not operate weekends). That is unusual tho.
However, one can launch an after hours bail application. There is a duty prosecutor available after hours.
But it costs good money as your attorney will charge an after hours fee - usually around R3500 (for a half decent attorney) to do the application.
