Hi guys,

I got a new mtn contract on thursday. The mms/wap isn't working because there aren't any settings on the phone for that.

I tried doing the *123*12# thing, to get them to sms me the settings, but all I get is a welcome msg from them that includes no settings.

Does anyone know how I can add the settings manually? I think I know how, I just need to know what the actual settings are for wap/mms etc.

It's a Nokia 6230i.

Thanks.

6230i

hi jhb girl what is your software version as i got the same prob.
to check type *#0000#

I just got off the phone with mtn and I am spitting mad. Apparently the phone has software issues and needs to be taken to Woodmead to get a firmware upgrade for it to work.
Why couldn't this have been addressed before I received the phone, or why couldn't I have been informed that the phone has "issues" when I ordered it?
It was advertised as wap enabled etc. I don't see why this should now be my problem to get the phone sorted out.

mmm, that sucks..

If you cant access the *123*12# option at all, try and just go to *123# and then choose phone setup from there...

None of those things works. (I did try again)

I sent my request for the WAP settings, but I didn't receive a reply. With the MMS I just get a welcome message saying I can now use the service, but it doesn't work (phone says settings not found or something)

i have the 6230 and had the same problems with mine. the automatic settings from *123# didnt work. i called 173 customer care and held for an operator, and they sent the settings after i hang up the call. works fine ever since

I called them too and they went "ja erm there is a problem with that phone...blah blah blah, take it to nokia...blah blah blah"

6230 and 6230i are not the same, my friend has the 6230 and it works fine.

Noswal, I can't register on the mtn site.

When I dial the code they give me for registration on my new mtn phone, I get a "application not running please try again later" service reply.

Ag I'll just take it in and have the firmware updated. I'm not impressed though. :S

Thanks 3Gee. I am trying but so far I haven't received a reply. Just one question. Is the phone number format +2783xxxxxxx or are there spaces anywhere in there?

@Jhbgirl , you got it +2783XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Ok, it doesn't work :S Unless it takes like an hour :P But they said 3 min.

OTA Settings

Hi everyone, the problem can be solved if you know of some using an older sim card, below V2.3 which is written on the card. Stick the older version sim in the handset and request the wap setting. *123*11#, this I guarantee you will solve the OTA problem.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! *jumps up and down*

I used the hubby's mtn sim, and now it works. Thx so much fonefreak and everyone else.

If the phone says on the screen GPRS active, does that mean it's actually online?? The hubby's phone keeps doing that now.

Cool

Glad to know it worked for you JHBGirl, If GPRS icon is shown it could be in idle state, go into browser and make sure you are disconnected, if icon is still shown not to worry you wont be charged as long as there's no data been transmitted.
