Other DSTV Channels ?

Is it possible to configure a DSTV decoder to get other channels besides the Multichoice bundle, and if so how ?

Nope dont think so, think the decoder is only for multichoice. Maybe if you had another decoder or some import kind, but I dont think its possible with the current one

I havent used a DSTV decoder for a long time
but in the settings you can add "Other Networks" The code is 9949 is you are prompted for it ;-) Input the Freq, S/R and FEC and then re-scan...

It used to be possible from what I read. As I recall there was an adult channel broadcast out of Italy that used the PAS7 satellite. All you required was a specific smart card. Apparently you just had to swap smart cards and adjust the polarization of the LNB (if I've got those terms correct). Never tried it so I can't confirm that it worked.

I've done this.
There isn't really very much out there that you can pickup without repositioning your dish.
Unless you're interested in watching the Jet in-store ads, or listening to Mr Price Radio.

Search the forums and you should find how to tune the decoder. Only programs extra are lots of religious channels and Botswana TV the last time I looked as well as some in-store programs. I am not too sure whether the NEPAD channel is still running.

Majority of free-to-air channels you can get without repositioning your dish are religious channels (Called G_d TV)

I also saw Botswana TV or something among these channels, as well as something about sentech pay-per-view.

Tuning procedure for newer Multichoice Decoders:

1. On your REMOTE CONTROL press the MENU button.
2. Press 6 for ADVANCED OPTIONS.
3. Press 1 for DISH INSTALLATIONS.
4. Enter PIN Code: 9949
5. Press 2 for NETWORK CONFIGURATION.
6. Press 2 for NETWORK 2 SETUP. (If 2 is greyed out, use NETWORK 3 SETUP) (different network for each of the bouquets)
7. On SIGNAL SETUP press OK to highlight DISABLED.
8. Press ‘Right Arrow’ button (>) to change to ENABLED and press OK.
9. Make sure #2 ‘ORBITAL POSITION’ is PAS7/10
10. Make sure #3 ‘USE NIT’ is YES.
11. Press 4 for FREQUENCY: (you may need to press OK before the next step).
12. Press ‘Left Arrow’ button (<) 5 times.
13. Enter FREQ (obtained from table) and press OK to save.
14. Press 5 for SYMBOL RATE: (you may need to press OK before next step).
15. Press ‘Left Arrow’ button (<) 5 times.
16. Enter SymbolRate (obtained from table) and press OK to save.
17. Make sure #6 ‘POLARISATION’ is correct (Horizontal or Vertical)
18. Press 7 for FEC: (you may need to press OK before next step).
19. Press ‘Left Arrow’ button (<) 3 times until it reads the corect FEC (from table).
20. Press OK button to save.
21. Press 8 to VIEW SIGNAL STRENGTH, then press OK button to save.
22. When saved, press EXIT – one time only!
23. Press 3 to SCAN NEW NETWORKS. (If 3 is greyed out, press 4)
24. After scanning process complete, receiver may go to channel 1.
25. Go to CHANNEL 4 which should be MNET MOVIES 1.

To view these channels:

1. On your remote, press the TV button.
2. Press the ‘Up Arrow’ (^) button on your remote.
3. Find and select PUBLIC PAS7/10 and press OK.
4. Press P+ BUTTON ON YOUR REMOTE until you find the desired channel.
