Outdated Books & Documentation

Can anyone out there explain to me if it is a tendency for Linux to have outdated documentation in relation to software that's considered cutting edge(released before time), and thus having one scouring the web just to make sense of it or do I have to dig through source code comments. Even via piracy it might be luck to get something decent, therefore how can one play fairly well with samba 4 + openldap 2.4 (since 2.3 is no longer supported in most distros). :confused:

Yes. And in the spirit of open source, why don't you write some decent documentation?
 
Are yoiu referring to beta or RC software that is not classified as an official stable release yet?
 
People are simply lazy when it comes to documentation, coding spree's are more exiting.
 
the internet is an ever evolving machine of documentation. why not make an effort and DIY?
 
I used to write a lot of translations and some documentation for Ubuntu 8.10 and Gnome help, it was a great feeling and a good thing to do. I had lots of time then. I just wish people would switch their approach when it comes to criticising the FOSS model. If I and in my spare time develop a fix for piece of hardware not working well and say what the heck let me share it, am I being an ass for not writing a man page for it.

Hope you get the help you seek just keep asking around the forums somebody will eventually turn up.
