I am looking for an

- outdoor wifi range extender

for my outdoor wifi plugs.

I have one of these that I bought on Banggood last year. Works well. Paid R300 on special.

Thanks was hoping someone would be selling old ones.

Investing in an inverter system, so trying to pinch the pennies.

Will give it until August, and then bite the bullet to buy a new one.

Otherwise banggood might be good enough. Not too much, so thanks will try it in interim.

Eish not on special. Will track it.

Yep. Could work. Have the sonoff below inside a large junction box already.

Was not comfortable leaving a plug permanently in without better protection.

@adielk
Here is a R200 router that would work perfectly as an AP. You just need to house it in a weatherproof enclosure.

Thanks.

Your suggestion reminded me I had an old linksys AP lying around. Found it yesterday.

Since I already have the outdoor plug inside an enclosure I'll either place it inside it or place AP as close to it as possible if I cant get the network cable to the enclosure box.

Forget Range Extenders, they are all useless kak.

We went this option of AP to limit expenditure.

I only have one outdoor wifi plug struggling. Not sure why.

I have some non-recurring expenditures at the moment, so cheap is my solution.

Once the outdoor plug running, its not going to really be an issue.

Probably better to us a normal indoor setup then somewhere closer to the outdoor plug?

Amazingly these outdoor things are so crazy I don’t know why I bothered putting any inside my house in the first place.

1. Yep, thus @Dairyfarmer made me remember old AP as outdoor plug already inside an enclosure
2. If need to drill a hole, too much effort, I'll rather place AP as close to plug as possible.

Hopefully find time in week to do this. AP next to my bed so just case of plugging into a cat cable. Check if it will fit under door, otherwise place close to door. Or even mount it on the door as outdoor plug near the door

Hmm thought of using outdoor plugs as indoor replacements at a stage but only have 2 sonoffs and the wifi plugs are cheap enough.

I’ve got an outdoor unifi unit. It’s an older single band unit though

I just need a 2.4ghz wifi for the sonoff outdoor plug. My wifi cameras run fine on the wifi. Honestly not sure why the sonoff outdoor plug struggles. Had to get it on mobile hotspot to confirm its not malfunctioning.

Thanks. Old AP close to door next to outdoor plug did the trick.
