Our ISP is Telkom ADSL, but our email is hosted by @lantic. It has worked perfectly fine like this over the past 3 years. Today i get this error when sending emails from Outlook 2007
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

'xxxxxxxx@gmail.com' on 28/03/2011 10:59
554 5.7.1 <xxxxxxxx@gmail.com>: Relay access denied

The @lantic techie advised me to change the outgoing mail server to smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
this has not helped...

I think you'll have more luck sending mail directly through the @lantic smtp server ... their smtp server details are smtp.lantic.net or mail.lantic.net . Hopefully telkom is not redirecting all smtp traffic via their own smtp servers...

What smtp server did you use before you changed it to smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net?

Interesting...Relay Access. I haven't seen this is a while. I used to work for matrix warehouse and I had this problem only once. The Telkom smtp servers would detect that you are logging in from another ISP and therefore it wouldn't allow you to use their smtp server.

@lantic might have disabled relay access on their smtp servers which prevents users outside of their own network from using their smtp servers. It might be a problem on @lantics side as they are only hosting your service not your ADSL so you should be an exception. You might have to phone them again and ask them to check this.

In the meantime you can try smtp.saix.net. I'm not sure if its still active because I haven't used it in a while but it might still work.

And telkoms servers never bloody work

I know this thread is really old, but wanted to say thank you to Spooner. Saved me from a few more hours of frustration. Got the same outgoing mail error ....relay access. I changed a customers email provider from outlook to thunderbird as requested and signed in from our ISP (NOT telkom), i was stumped as to why it would not work no matter what setting was used. Tried smtp.saix.net and others listed on other sites... nothing!!! ...the moment telkom was used it worked. Find it really rather irritatingly childish....
