Outgoing mail problems

maybe you can't help being helpful, even when tired :D

Will check tonight...out of town. No I don't have Pastel on it

Excellent, coz pastel does not like PC name change.

and yes there is a difference between username and computername. Computer name must be less generic.

Mweb could have prevented your and others frustration if only they had sent out a mass mail.

As far as helpful goes.... I don't mind being helpful, I just don't cope well with fools and idiots. ;)

Are you hinting that I should move away from Mweb? :p

I'm picking up you're not a fan

Btw I think that computer name might be my name. If it's user I'll be hanging my head in shame

This is why I no longer use POP3/SMTP mail accounts. There's always some sort of problem every so often.
GMail always works.

What I had to do when I realised some statements didn't reach their destinations by the set dead lines. Counted on gmail to save the day + had to make a few phone calls explaining the delay :o

until this so called security settings I had no problem.

However when 5 of your clients are accountants and mweb clients it can be fun.

The one client has over 100 different sets of books over different pastel versions AND each of those need attention.

So yeah .... fun.

I also don't like their FON router setup.

there is an increased security risk
restrictive, more so that Auz.

Otherwise I have no issue with mweb. :)

And the above (name change) info I only got from one of their senior techs.

so far

mweb email
voda email
gmail
private registered emails (own domain)

all while using mweb adsl

oh and also had probs with mweb mail and VC 3G.

change the name and problem solved..

The problem with a POP3 mail account.
The criminals out there get your e-mail address and then spam the whole world with your e-mail address.
People don't get e-mail from you because it ends up in their spam folders, which they seldom check. Your e-mail address becomes blacklisted in various lists that mail relays download to check against
As for how they get your e-mail address, they scan the mail server, using combinations of usernames. I have had this experience, caught them in the act of doing it... Everyone says its the Chinese, actually the Russians are big into this.

GMail solves all of this, the way it is set up is obviously better.

Or switch over to gmail and stick with it.

IMAP/SMTP works for me all the way, on all my devices. No messing around with doohicky smtp/pop servers when changing internet service providers...

False.

Spamhaus/spamcop et al blacklist IP addresses which's known to send out bulk unsolicited emails (aka SPAM).

They have dynamic (dial-up IP's) on a list, which all email admins should use to block spam from zombie PC's.

Often an email server using a static IP get blacklisted due to a spambot on the network.

But they will never blacklist any email addresses, only IP addresses.

I will wait and hear what OP says after he gets to his home PC tonight.

While what you say is possible, I am reluctant to think that is the first solution when mweb is involved.

What I mentioned is being done in phases, as per their senior tech.

As for email address harvesting, they usually either sniff internet traffic, or they use bots to scan web pages etc for email addresses.

@Venomous I checked now and the full computer name is set at Paul-PC

Windows 7

Just tried to send a test mail to my gmail account and it came back with

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

'******@gmail.com' on 2014/04/10 07:23 PM
451 Could not complete sender verify callout

Also did 10 "test emails" in account settings

4 showed error 451.

So the problem seems to be random.

hmmm,

Can you go to lantic's site?

I think maybe you could call lantic? Ask them to see how full your mailbox is on their server, and if full they must delete older than 6 months. Though that normally affects incoming email...

If you go to lantic's site and use the web interface, do you get the same send errors?

reason for this: If no then an mweb problem
If yes then a lantic problem.

Yep will have to contact them. Maybe I should consider changing over slowly to a gmail account while having both. That would mean that many people & companies will have to be notified of new email address

Thanx for help and interest :)

Are you using Port 587 instead of 25?

If not, them switch to 587.

Mweb have been blocking 25 for a while now as a means of improving security.

Changed from 25 to 587

Same problem. Sent 5 test mails to my gmail account. 2 went through the others came back with 451 error

Give up! I think I must just go with the gmail account, Stuff this Outlook nonsense. Every so often one have one of these problems; If it's not emails not going out it's none coming in or both in-and-out fail...tired of this

Thx for all the assistence and willingness to help. Now I can also cancel Vox service and only pay Mweb for internet

Had same problem. Incoming mails but not outgoing for two or three days. Yet telkom test settings worked. Tried 587 but that gave test mail error. Problem resolved itself overnight.

Luckily dont really use it except for receiving statements.
