outlook 2007 out of memory error

3.8gig is a bit big. Reduce the size by splitting it up, and try again.
As a general rule, I don't let PST's grow bigger than 2gig.

This problem occurs because the .pst and the .ost files have a 2 gigabyte (GB) size limitation, and the error message occurs when it is exceeded.

Not too sure if it was fixed, but you do get a lot of hits when you search for "outlook+pst+2gb" on google.

Maybe Office Sp1 and SP2 would help? SP2 is supposed to enable large pst files to work better.
 
Also, it may depend on the OS. If you running a 32-bit OS, it may have to do with the file size. 3.8 G would be the limit in a 32-bit OS, without some extra fancy coding to handle it. I suspect the up to 20GB limit in Office 2007 would have to be on a 64-bit OS. If you are running 64-bit, and you get this error, then I'd say we are running out of ideas
