Having a problem with Outlook 2007 in that when it is first started it will download all the mail, but when it gets to the end it hangs with about 4 KB remaining and will continue to do so until I cancel the send and receive.

When it the attempts to download mail again, it hangs at "Preparing to send and receive" and will not download any mail. I have to restart the PC for it to download the mail and the whole process starts all over again.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

Use this website to log on to your mail server... find the problem e-mail, read it and delete it from the server.

Cheers Gary. That is a nifty site.

I deleted all the mails in the folder and it seems to have rectified that problem. Now I've got another problem in that Outlook now keeps crashing ~puts head in hands in dispair~

Try creating a new PST file. Or run the scanpst.exe tool on your old PST file.

Small tip:

Start outlook. Cancel send/receive immediately, before it gets a chance to initiate.

Go to Tools> Options> Mail Setup> Send/Receive Options. Click on download headers only.

Click ok> ok etc. Now try to send/receive.

Make sure to select each email and be sure to double click and mark to download. Do this individually. Double click, mark to download, then send/receive. Do this for each mail, each time, separately.

Now, you will see it might crash/restart on one of them, but it will start up again normally. That's the problem email with the attachment O2007 Hates.

Now, small tip. Load Office SP1 and all recent updates as well. Should sort it out :p

Edit: remember to change it back to download complete mail :p

check if skype or any other such bandwith using programme is running in the background. I had that exact same problem with the send/recieve and that sorted it out.

Do you know a very nice application Advanced Outlook Repair. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files.
