Outlook Express attachment saving

I opened a message with and excel attachment. After I opened the attachment i started editing the excel document. Instead of using the Save As function I just kept on saving the document. I closed excel and now that I want to go back to that document it is just missing. If I open the attachment of the original document then it gives me the unedited version. Where did my edited version go? I tried searching my hard drive but it dont pick up the file. Must I redo everything?
