Friends got email issues in OE, cannot delete mails. dbx files are very large and probably also slightly corrupted I suspect. Will require compacting and some cleanup I suspect.

Thing is he also has Outlook (MS Office suite) on his laptop so I'm thinking of importing all his mail and settings into Outlook. If memory serves me correctly Outlook does not suffer from the same issues as OE, is that correct?

What do you guys reckon about me migrating his mail to Outlook, yay or nay?

Sounds like this may be a 2gb issue. As a first measure just check the size of the outlook .pst file. If in the region of 2gb use the outlook gb repair tool. If not, good luck!

Definitely Outlook over Outlook Express. !

They can create folders in outlook express like 2004,2005 etc for older items if you really want to use express.

Why on earth some1 would choose express over outlook i cant really understand.

Did you read my post?

Anyway, shot for the input people, I will migrate him to Outlook.

Outlook express had a 1gig dbx limit before it started acting wonky

Ok, have deleted the Deleted Items .dbx, split the Sent Items into three smaller folder and compacted everything without issues but hit a snag.

The dudes version of Office is 2000 so Outlook is pretty old. When I try and Import Internet Mail Account Settings in Outlook it does not find any settings for OE6? I can however import the OE6 mail without issues though. Any ideas?

Secondly how do I delete all existing profiles & mail for Outlook 2000 as there are a few remnants from 2006 left in there on a outdated account so I want to start with a clean slate? I cannot unisntall the app as i do not have the install media.

Seeing Outlook 2000 is so old would it not be better going with Thunderbird?
Pros & cons wrt database stability, corruption, size issues etc?

I don't think it's by choice. This guy seems to have used Outlook before but is now on OE, he definitely did not migrate it himself as he is not capable of that. I have seen many instances where I set people up with Outlook to later find them using OE. When asked why they respond they had an issue with their mail and called the ISP tech support and they then set them up to use OE. The same happens with Thunderbird I've noticed. I think the support staff are not to familiar with Outlook and it's also slightly more complicated in the way it is setup & configured compared to OE.

I also just read up and didnt realise that Outlook is a separate product while express comes with windows xp etc.
So maybe cost would be a factor.

What about taking him to Windows Live Mail ?

How much does it rely on the Live component of the name? Also looks a bit different and my experience is people generally do not like change...

Well, it's the official replacement of OE....not sure what you mean by Live component..

When I read "Live" I'm thinking reliance on a web/internet component with login to MS portal etc? Something I want to avoid at all costs.

Else I will give it a bash I reckon.

I just went down the Live route and the fscker does not import the server settings although it does all the mail fine. I'll phone the dude tomorrow to get the settings. The default view sux but I'll try and change that tomorrow.
