Cape Town - A coffee cup with a photo of a pair of breasts in a low-cut bra has caused outrage at the University of Cape Town (UCT), the Cape Times reported on Tuesday.

The cups were used by a coffee shop on campus for about 10 days and emblazoned with slogans like: "Got Milk?", "Caution: Hot Coffee" and "No motorboating".

The cups, which were advertising Axe deodorant, were removed after staff and students complained that they were an insult to women.

UCT student Olivia Walton commented that it was unacceptable for the university to allow female body parts to be used to sell products.

"I am not saying that it is the cause of the violence meted out to South African women every day. To say that would be too forgiving, too simple," she wrote in an opinion piece for the Cape Times.

"What I am saying is that for Africa's best university to be complicit in the abuse of the female body for the sake of profit is archaic, absurd and unacceptable."

You have got to be joking.

No motorboating. :D

But it's ok to do so anywhere else

I thought this happened at UCT.

the female form is the cornerstone of advertising. or is it the degree of exploitation? surely all of it should stop then.

What gets met is this line:
"What I am saying is that for Africa's best university to be complicit in the abuse of the female body for the sake of profit is archaic, absurd and unacceptable."

Since when is UCT Africa's best University? ;)

What's the bet this Walton individual is a manbeast femnazi?

I don't know what the big problem is, especially in this day and age. Low-cut bras (can I get a hallelujah!!), paintings of prominent individuals with their junk hanging out, tweets by models, etc. etc.

The world must be a really happy place if those are the only things making so-called headlines in the world of news.

South Africa, the world's next censourous, prudish & repressed nation.

Look, I'm all for women's rights, respecting a woman and all that, but c'mon. She better go on a witch hunt for Axe now as their advertising campaigns are all guilty of exploiting women then. FHM, ban it. Wonderbra, get them to end their ad campaigns too. I spend a lot of time on and around universities in my line of work and I can tell you now, come summer time, fake tits on a cup should be the least of her worries as a lot of the young women don't leave much to the imagination with their outfits - or lack thereof.

Chances are she's a 5-and-a-half out of 10. :p

She wrote an entire opinion piece on it...what a joke. Oh well I suppose she has the time considering she is a Humanities student! :D
