Hi all

Hoping someone can help - my outside sensor is stuck "on" meaning it is sensing something even though there ain't anything. So I have to bypass the zone in order to activate the alarm.

Any idea what could be causing this issue... I tried powering the sensor on and off and it worked for about 1 hour, before it got stuck back "on"

Thanks

Usually this happen when the battery is about to die. It's not actually stuck on, it's actually reporting an active error.

Replace the battery and it will be fine again

based on the conduit below it I doubt its the wireless version

Have you tried opening the front cover to see if everything looks fine inside or smell if some magic smoke was released?

the battery ones usually fail open when flat, but since there's clearly wires going to this one i assume its powered by the alarm.

Either something is inside - maybe dirt/dust or an insect causing problems or the sensor itself has gone faulty.

Opening it can answer some of the questions, but not all. If it looks fine inside, it may be faulty.

Fact remains, it's reporting an error. Missed the conduit. That said, my battery ones go into this stuck mode when the battery is low, no idea if it fail open if completely flat, never waited till that moment.

These sensors essentially give an error as default, so no error only when everything is as it should be. I'm guessing a loose wire somewhere.

So I opened the cover, and it looks fine inside.
No bugs or ants in the thing, wires are all secure...

I powered it down for a minute or so, reconnected it and still the error persists....I can only assume it is faulty then.

When we redid the alarm system, they fitted it with a lithium battery, and the house is also on solar so no power outages to speak of.

Wait, wired sensor fitted with a battery?

You probably should check if it receives power at all from the wires or only the battery. Could be the battery then in fact. "They" might have cut a corner on this one.

Just to add to this, even if OP sensor isn't wireless, but I have one of the wireless beams and there are two sets of batteries in them - one 9V for the sensor itself and another set of AAAs for the wireless transceiver. Check both.

It is the main alarm backup battery he is referring to...

It is a regular wired alarm sensor
