Ok, in June last year I signed up for a Telkom 384kbps ADSL line. I pretty much pay about R150 for the ADSL then gotta pay something roughly like R140 for the phone line all for a 1 gig cap p/m.
Every month I'm using this gig quicker and quicker and right now its only the 6th of the month and I'm capped

I've been searching the net but havent managed to find the info I need at the moment. I wanna go onto an uncapped account now but does Telkom offered uncapped ADSL? Also, if I change my ISP do I have to pay Telkom some sort of excess for not finishing my year contract with them or something like that? Got the ADSL Billion modem / router from them, so will I have to pay for that as well?

And last question, which is the most reliable / cheap / value for money uncapped 384kbps ISP to go with at the moment if Telkom isnt offering uncapped?

Thanks

Telkom does not offer uncapped on ADSL residential accounts.

Yes you will pay penalties if you terminate the contract.

MWeb or Afrihost or OpenWeb, etc choose your pick!

Well said, and I'm going to nudge you in the direction of Mweb for your uncapped ISP. ;)

sorry to hijack the topic, but my question also to do with the telkom bill. whats the "discount plan" included on a separate page with the bill?

We offer extremely well-priced uncapped adsl accounts. Visit www.trltech.co.za for more info.

I speak under correction... They charge you the full price per service that you qualify for on the DoBroadband bundle and then they give the discounts on a separate page. The net effect is then the price you were quoted for the DoBroadband package!! Bloody confusing!

The Telkom contract (24 month contract for a free modem) only binds you to use the Telkom line for 24 months, meaning you can pick any ISP and cancel your bandwidth with Telkom.
My opinion, don't sign any contracts with Telkom - if anything happens to your line (cable theft/damages ect.) you take the knock - yes you are credited for the duration that your line is inactive ( only after providing various fault report numbers) but you still pay each month and only be credited the next (so you lose a month).

By not binding yourself in a agreement puts the ball in your court - if Telkom can't deliver, you just cancel your line.
