Overclocking Help Please?

32Bit OS' have a basic limitation of around 3gig of addressable memory ( Overheads and stuff included ) Rest would sit idle

4GB is a good figure then. I've heard that with 8GB Vista is a dream to work with.

I'll also be going to Vista next week, 64 bit, will that be a performance hit of note over XP 32 bit? Also changing to 4GB ram in Jan.

If you load SP1 for Vista and most of the updates, I don't think you will see that big of a performance hit. Still have to load SP2 beta to comment on that. It is highly unlikely that I will ever go back to XP. Just waiting for Perth IT to say that we are allowed to load Vista at work. :D

Have you tried the beta? Is it worth running or better to wait for final?

The 32bit beta is like 315mb and the 64bit is 614mb, so no, I still have to download it. And you have to have SP1 installed before you can load them.

I will try that, but surely increasing the multiplier wont change the ram speed? That will stay at 400MhzDDR=800?

If I increase the FSB, that will increase the Ram speed, no?

I am running a very similar system to urs, except for the CPU, also running DDR2-800 2x1Gb, and a HD3870. What do u get on 3d Mark 06 with that system all default? I get 10400 before the o/c, and memory b/w of 6900mb/s on Sandra, after the o/c. Are these ok?

What did you get on 3DMark after your OC? I installed that patch and got it to run. Scored 10551.

Should be really good, those newer chips are much better. But I must say the E6400 after 2 years is still handling! Leaving now for the FragLan, will check the forum tomorrow.

It stayed about the same, that really is a bench of gfx, so the cpu wont make that much diff.

Ok, setting I have arrived at, stable and cool, will push it later:

FSB:420
RAM: 840 5-5-5-18
CPU Multiplier: 7.5x
CPU: 3.16

3dMark06: 10848 (was 10240)
Memory B/W: 7198mb/s (was 5200mb/s)
Max Temp during Prime95 or Everest Stress Test is around 58-60 in RealTemp.

Stock voltages.

It is very lekker, but because I swopped mobo cpu etc, and just reinstalled XP over the old 1, I keep getting crashes, so I just need to install Vista 64 bit clean.

Can't wait!
