Hey guys

I have a P5Q Deluxe with an e8400, just installed my Zalman 9700 nt, getting 26 degrees idle according to my Asus suite(motherboard Software).

Now time for my Oc'ing, where do i start?:)

Thanks

First research on the the roundabout limit for the E8400 on air.

Then go to the bios, get into the overclocking menu (CELL or Intelligent tweak etc etc)

Then set the fsb up to 400, ram ratio 1:1 and see where it takes ya ...oh and find the clear cmos button :p

EDIT: the above is the ideal setting everyone uses...if attainable...if not u'll need to increase volt or decrease multiplier...though the E8400 can get to 3.6ghz pretty easily...anything higher ur ram will need to be overclockable too

Yip, got my E8400 at 3.6Ghz(400x9), on the stock cooler and my ram ratio at 1:1. Everything else I left on auto. Works like a charm and is the easiest OC. :D

3.6 is wat i am aiming for, i have ddr2 800 ram transend not sure its overclockable. Doubt it haha.

:eek:Not overheating? Mine was hitting +40 on stock cooling...

I also have a P5Q board with a quad core (2.88ghz) running @ 3.6. I did the same as SharkBait except I upgraded my cooler (for less noise, heat was not a problem for me).

At CPU FSB 400 and ram ratio set to 1:1, you won't be overclocking your ram, so they should be fine...

Mine is running a bit high, but nothing to worry about yet, I have descent air flow in my case...

Start with downloading real temp, never trust a boards included temp software.

+1

Also if you're just starting out leave everything on auto in the Bios and just increase the FSB speed first, this is how I started overclocking.

i have my e8500@4ghz -> 422x9.5 with only 2x1gb ocz ddr2 800mhz ram, stable on 2.0volts; vcore 1.35 idle temp 34, max load 53

push your ram and do a 12hour orthos, dont play it safe ;)
