Hello every body.

I have a Netgear DG834Gv5 and I have a feeling that this router disconnecting me from the internet due to over heating. The bottom of the router is very hot (eg like a bit hotter than a charging unit of a laptop).

Is this normal or is the router faulty, I have spoken to Mweb Guy on facebook and he says my line is showing no faults but I did tell him it was getting hot and recommend me to get my router tested.

What I have done for the past 8 mouths was to put a old Pentium 4 heatsink under it, yes it does cool down for a while but then the heatsink also becomes extremely hot.

I would be able to provide temperatures on Wednesday if anybody is interested.

Hi There,
My netgear DGN2200 is also pretty hot to the touch at the bottom. I have not noticed any issues with it though so I presume it has been designed to be tolerant. It is well ventilated though with no additional cooling.
You could try another router to eliminate the line being faulty.

Regards

Tim

Try mounting it vertically with the supplied brackets.

I got a netgear, not sure the model now as I am not home at the moment, but it is a N-150 model and it came with a wifi-usb stick. I get so many disconnects from the PC using that usb stick it isn't even funny...

Not sure if it is the USB stick or the actual router giving problems. I did put the router in the vertical position and the heat is a lot better, but I still get random disconnects. Then I have to unplug the USB stick and put it back for it to work. SOmetimes that doesnt even works and then a reboot of the PC does the trick...

Anyone had this in the past maybe?
