Hi There. I am going to France in a few weeks time and have no idea what I need to ensure I have internet access.

I am currently on contract with Vodacom and have a Huawei mobile modem. I am sure I can't use this as the cost is probably exorbitant.

Should I buy a sim card in France to insert in my modem and buy say 1GB of data? Or can I rely on the wireless networks and buy some kind of data card? I am largely in rural areas (Burgundy) so am unsure whether this is a reliable option.

As you can probably tell I am a little bit lost at what approach to take and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Most coffee shops in Europe have wireless hot spots, but you shouldn't rely on this. Just get yourself an Orange sim, and you should be good.

I think Vodafone passport only works for voice calls, so you might be better off to buy an Orange sim and use that while you're there.

Rather buy a sim in the country that you going to for the most cost-effective way and not too expensive to connect to the internet. Data roaming is available but at hectic costs once the SP gets back your billing tickets from the overseas network.

Whatever you do dont go the data roaming way , Orange roaming charges will cost you a arm and a leg.
