I gave my friend my OVHD decoder some months ago. She has been using it with a DSTV dish with no problems, but then one day it said there was no signal. She borrowed a neighbor's DSTV decoder and that worked on her dish. We took the decoder to ElSat and they got it to work from a DSTV dish. But when she connected it back home, it still didn't. Then she took her decoder to her friend's place, and now it worked! So she got an installer to check it, and he says that she needs a new dish, even though the decoder used to work on that dish.
I tried it at my place with my DSTV dish, and it still said no signal. I followed the procedure for connecting to a DSTV dish, but still no luck. (It worked at ElSat and at her friend's place, so this should not have been necessary, but I had to try something.)
Does the OVHD decoder have two tuners and maybe one popped? Otherwise it just doesn't make sense. I can understand that if it never worked on her dish then it might need to be reconfigured. I'm wondering if I buy a new decoder (they are pretty cheap now), would it work? The installer guy will probably want more money than the cost of the decoder. But there is no guarantee that a new one will work.
