Hi,

I'll be moving to a new place next month and I'm pretty much set on Afrihost as my preferred ISP.

2 questions though:
1. The area last mile is Vuma and OpenServe from the old telkom poles. Is going with OpenServe the better of the 2 options?
2. I have a Deco mesh system that I'd like to use in the new place...does Afrihost require that their supplied router be connected to the ONT and then have my router connected to theirs or can I just connect my router straight?

At my current place we're with Vox via Octotel. When Vox came to install they were pretty much dead set on the idea that their Miktrotik has to connect to the ONT and they'd provision an interface on their Mikrotik for my main deco unit and turn their radios off. This just seems a bit much since the Gizzu unit I want to use for backup power would then to power an extra ISP router.....and most importantly, I had the internet working before Vox technician arrived without their router...so it must be possible. Just need to make sure with Afrihost.

Thanks

Hi, yes you may use your own router. Adding a wifi router to the order is not compulsory. Which line speed are you looking to get?

Openserve has excellent connectivity and uptime in my experience.

Afrihost supplies the Huawei AX3 router. Does the basics well, but if you like lots of configuration options and features, this is not the router for you.

It won't mesh with the TP-Link Deco AFAIK, but it will with other AX3's.

Just plug in one of the Deco units that you already have into the ONT, set it up with the PPPoE details and that's it.

If the satellite mesh nodes have been previously connected to this one, they will link up automatically again.

Good to know. Yeah the Decos are currently in use so they'll just be reconnected at the new place.

Thanks for the advice
