P2P...Huh?

I thought I'd give P2P one more try and installed eMule last night, ran through the install, set the port to somewhere between 6000 and 7000.

Then i ran the port test and on the results page got a really weird result.

As I expeected, the TCP test failed, but the IP provided wasn't my own, it was some SAIX cache. Now nowhere on my machine or in the router have I specified that I wished to use a cache server...

At first I thought it might have been Imaginet, so I tried my Axxess account but go the same result.

WTF is up?

SAIX (and most other ISP's) use a transparent proxy ... you don't have a choice in using it ....

Most of these test sites could get your actual IP by checking the correct headers from the cache server....but don't do so...
 
Hmmm makes sense and that thought did cross my mind, although it doesn't make it any clearer why I cannot pass the TCP test.

Once setup I can search and see anything but downloads just do not occur at all
 
you got a Low ID or a High ID? Might be a firewall blocking access.
eMule can automatically configure your local FW but if you are on a LAN and the server hosting the internet connection is not your pc... well... port forwarding is a pain :P
 
Yo, I am new to this but downloading via file sharing program and presuming this is p2p ,,Id like to know more about this port forwarding I was OK two days ago but the speed on my downloads( file sharing with soulseek) is basicaly non existant all other downloads are fine

Page, I've got a High ID.
I've forwarded the required ports and got it working now...if only the speed was higher, it would be better.

A|T, what hardware are you using?

If it was fine, and you've changed nothing, and all of a sudden it's not working, I'd suspect Telkom is messing around again

All i changed was the dns at the request of axxess
 
The thing is Im running netmeter and i can see the speed fluctuate like crazy
A minute ago it was on 0 up 0 down and then a bit later 10 down,,,,love to know what is going on
 
Telkom neuk met my ports!

Hi ppl, just got Telkom ADSL few days ago & thought I finally could get those elusive mp3s I always wanted after years of 56k modem and WinMX through the new eMule(Donkie) but am stuck with this port fwding deal.I'm no network tecchie and have tried allsorts of configs to get port fwding setup including a call to Telkom support which was actually not that bad, helped by a guy who said I should try downloading carricksolutions.com PPPoE client.I didn't want to run Biometrics.co.za's Router 'restarter' either coz it requires your ASDL account info & passwords which I do not think is any of their business.I have a Telkom Marconi(actually a cheap rebranded Indian device) 4 port Ethernet router/modem version 4 with Firmware Version: CX82xxx_4.1.0.9 & Customer Software Version: 4.1.0.9_F2_MAR_04 and tried opening
ports on the Virtual Network settings which requires a Host IP to fwd to.I tried my local WAN and LAN IP's as well as the 'outside' IP I get from portsforward.com but with no success.Can someone please throw me a bone here.Any suggestions would be welcomed with open arms but alass not open ports...
 
Firstly, the 'host IP address' should be your local IP address, ie, not the WAN address. so if you want to foward port '6600' to your computer whose LAN address is '192.168.0.8' then you would put in the following settings : Public port (start and end) : 6600 , private port : 6600 (the port which your PC uses) and Host IP address : 192.168.0.8 NB This is not the LAN address as specified in the first page of the router setup page, which is your routers IP. It is the local IP of your PC, which can be found by checking your PC's LAN status. After doing this, you should be able to use this port freely. You might also need to adjust your software firewall if neccessary.
i'm sorry if this is unclear, but do some looking around, there are plenty of resources available, and once you understand, its a piece of cake. :o

Why is P2P soo sloowww? my limewire hardly ever gets above 4Kb/s on MWEB? Are there any ways to squeeze a little more juice out of this?
 
im getting the same speeds on limewire with crappy mweb. bearshare works much faster, getting aroung 40kB/s with it.
 
personally i dont fully trust warez sites because theres always a risk of spyware and active x controls with them. some do work ok though
