hey,
I recently (like a day ago) got a 384 line from telkom with a 3g cap from Cybersmart, the deelio is cool, except limewire, emule, warez and other p2p's won't connect (it just says connecting the whole time). I've read through many of this sites forum threads on such issues and from these believe that cybersmart does allow p2p services. I also don't have a firewall so I'm really confused and thoroughly frustrated because p2p was a main concern of mine on the net. Sorry if this maybe a lower - brow question compared to others but I actually can't stand it any more (been only 1 day - bad patience I know). please help

Hey. I am with cybersmart on a 384 line also, and I don't have any problems with P2P applications at all.. Often get full speed. Sorry i dont have a solution tho but it must be a configuration on your router or pc i am gessing...

AFAIK they don't do their own shaping etc. I use cybersmart for international torrents often

hey crackerscat

i also have a 384 line running on cybersmart and regularly use limewire... no problems at all. why not give them a shout? from my past dealings with them, i have been nothing but impressed.

good luck :)

are you using a router or a modem? If you're using a router you'll either have to forward ports from the router to your machine, or use software that supports upnp (if your router supports it.)

thanks for the response, I have a got a router don't know if it has upnp though. It's some telkom premium combo adsl router with wi -fi (i don't use the wi-fi though, stupid buy). I dunno if that info helps at all

go into the router config (usually accessed by pointing your browser to the router's LAN ip address.) Look for something like "virtual server". That's where you do your port forwarding. I don't know the apps you're trying to run, nor what ports (the port numbers and whether TCP and/or UDP needs to be forwarded), but you'd setup a forwarding rule that (for example) forwards TCP traffic on port 12345 to your machine's LAN address. Once that's done you should have more joy.

Luck.

okay, I went to my ip config thing but didn't see any virtual server. however, I found a setting saying there was a firewall on my router, naturally I took it off. I can now connec to ed2k server using emule (i could never do this before) but not to the kad server. My limewire is also still not connecting. It seems I'm half way there

OMG im connected. geez im so pumped. THanks soo much. this is totally awesome

@ crackerscat:
Please, set your connections up properly and turn that firewall on again.

@ Ryuji:
I doubt he's/she's gonna find a Telkom branded device there.

Edit: Well screw me with a pitchfork. There are Telkom routers on portforward. Apologies Ryuji.

Crackerscat,

Looks to me like your router was forwarding all outgoing traffic, doesn't really matter if you enable all outgoing ports, but make sure incoming is firewalled.

Also, forwarding the ports for your P2P apps is not essential, but you will get better download speeds if you do.

No probs with my Cybersmart account either with P2P. I run torrents night and day. Just got myself a Openweb account for the local torrents and use Cybersmart for international torrents :D
Does your router not have a firewall buildt in? Myne does, so I had to setup the portforwarding, which is easy;)

All u do is use the telkom CD

Okayy this is for awl u losers newbies n dorks (Dun worry..I was also one until last week :-P jj) For this u will need to set your screen resolution for 1024x768 or higher (the telkom cd gives crap)
For limewire: Go to tools - options - advanced - firewall

OKAAY noww...use manual port forwarding (random port) 51279 is a good pick
use it...also...set your listening port for 51279
Btw u Dont HAVE TO use 51279...u can use anything...bt they must be the same...Done with limewire...close it

Then...use your telkom CD..autorun - easy setup - Riiiiiight at the bottom u'll c advanced configuration...it will ask u somethin bout resetting factory settings...select NO..it'll start checkin ur DSL router n crap takes a lil while but wait...then you'll see a few options on the side the second one is VIRTUAL SERVER...go there...kay u gona have to put in 2 little thingies here...tcp n UDP so listen carefully

Port Type: - Port Start Port END Host IP address
(entry no 1) tcp 51279 51279 ur router IP (eg. 10.0.0.2)
Submit n Save
(entry no 2) udp 51279 51279 router IP
Submit n Save
reboot n close

Errmmm...if there are any other things u would like to ask...I'll help if I can...just...ask..
