Hi guys,

If one would work in Paarl, where would affordable areas be to stay in? (rent at first and buy later). I'm unfamiliar with the area.

I've looked on Property24 and Private Property but its difficult to judge the area purely on the listings. Furthermore, there aren't a lot of rental places listed. I'm looking for a free standing place that allows dogs

I'm very familiar with Southern Paarl. What is your budget for renting? How many rooms, what's the size of your family etc.

You can also look at Wellington (15 minute drive from Paarl) as well as Franshoek or Stellenbosch. The last 2 spots is a bit of a drive, but there's like f-all traffic so should take you max 30-40 minutes to get from there to Paarl.

Thanks man. Its me, my wife and our baby. Looking for a 3 bed, 1 bath with enclosed garden (dogs). Budget around R10k pm. Really can't find anything for that price range on P24

Paarl has gotten ridiculously expensive over the past year, mostly as a result of increased demand and landlords being able to get a premium. If you can, look into something at the Oude Chardonnay complex (goo.gl/5mh5P5). 3 bedrooms are very scarce in your price range. Southern Paarl is great, Northern Paarl west of Main Road is also pretty decent - it is an up and coming area. For your price range and requirements Wellington is probably a better option, unless you can find a nice farm cottage in the surrounding areas.

Oude Chardonay is in De Zoete inval which is close to the mall/highway etc. Might be worth a look

There's actually a couple of farm houses advertised, huge rooms and in his price range.

Thanks guys, I'm looking at all the options you mentioned.

What's Klein Parys like? A little dodgy or okay?

It is unfortunately not the best of areas. I'd avoid east of the Berg River in general.

Sister-in-law stays in Vrykyk, which is also one of the nicer areas. But yes, Paarl has become very expensive.

Thanks. What would the commute be like from Brackenfell?

The commute might suck because they're busy upgrading the road there by Okavango and further down towards Goodwood.

In recent years, a lot of companies have moved more "in-land" instead of being in those areas, and people have followed. Or people would rather move to a town like that instead and commute.

Remember, trains. I miss just jumping on a train and being anywhere in Cape Town. #JHBsucks
