I bought quite a few boxes, 10 Knorr and 10 royco, they were quite good at first but now they all taste the same, in any event I still have it 2 - 3 times a day for the past 2 weeks.

Is it healthy to eat?
Also which other packet soup brand do you recommend?

I do appreciate a good home made soup, but this is so easy to make.

Having lived off those for many years, I would avoid any MSG laced soups. Check Knorr really carefully for no added MSG (Flavour enhancer E621). You also get nice premade soups in plastic looking sachets from woolworths. I do not remember their names, a little more expensive but they are absolutely amazing for that once a week treat, depending on your budget! (and a lot more satisfying).

Since you already have soup, and they are getting bland, try this as an added treat: Make your own croutons by drying out some toast over night (with a little brush of olive oil on top.) Pop them in the toaster for 60s before using them :)

(Dry out toast: After making it, leave it under a cloth over night)

For ready made soup I normally opt for the Heinz range.

Example http://www.heinz.co.uk/ourfood/soups/classicsoups/beef-broth is one of my favs when I want a quick meal. All you do is place in container and heat in the microwave and your good to go.

Stay away bro, I've also been addicted to those, its VERY unhealthy....

MSGS, Artificial Flavours, Artificial Colouring, almost artificial everything...

don't get me wrong I'm probably the biggest soup fan you know, but knowing how unhealthy this stuff is makes me sick to my stomach, luckily in my case, at work, we have a europa, they sell the real deal for R15 per mug every day :)

Anything man touches (organically in this case) turns to sh%1t....

Because of this I have changed my daily cup-a-soup to a nice organic tea, you'll be surprised how good some of these teas taste like, greentea + mint, CHAI tea, earl grey, honey bush, try it out, I'm sure you will find a suitable replacement for your daily cup-a-soup.

One more tip, avoid eating soup with bread, opt for nice chunky soup so that you can feel full, just by cutting bread out of my diet helped me shed off some extra kilos :)

Other than that, you probably cannot find a better nutritious meal than a nice cup of organic vegetable soup.

time to go, i literally have soup on the stove :)

Home made soup is so easy to make. I use a 6.5lt slow cooker. I usually turn it on early on a Saturday morning and then leave it for 5 to 6 hours.

My recipe is simple. I use about half packet of soup mix, some samp, a can of beef (you can use any meat) and a packet of Knorr vegetable soup (use any flavour you fancy) throw everything into the slow cooker, fill it up with warm water from the kettle and leave it until finished.

When finished I pour the soup into small 700ml containers and store it in the chest freezer. When I want some soup I just put the contents of a container in a bigger container (or leave it in its container) into the microwave for approx 12 min and there you go...nice fresh home made soup.

Those things are horrid, especially that texture they leave in your mouth.

I only use them for extra flavor when cooking actual food.

You're doing it wrong, you don't need artificial crap to flavour food.

Depends, a lot of food don't need salt. If you need salt you can always add more afterwards.

Well I don't normally add salt at all and also believe that raw salt is worse than anything else but I guess to each there own :)

I agree...I also like their canned soup...so easy and with bread and Melrose! YUUUUMMMMYYYY!!!!

I love salt. I hate food that is too "vars". I normally need to add salt to everything. It was rather interesting...me and my ex were having lunch at Primi long ago...and we ordered the same pasta...but he kept on complaining and sending his back saying it is too salty...even though it tasted delicccious to me. Eventually the Chef came out to see what is going on. I of course wanted a hole to appear in the floor and swallow me whole. The Chef was Italian and when he heard my ex is British, he said it makes sense now. Apparently people from places like the UK do not like a lot of salt. Something to do with the hot weather here and us sweating a lot more..hence craving salt that was lost through sweating. Him being a Italian Chef was told to add more salt to adapt his dishes for South Africans...but my ex could not handle it haha. Anyway...just thought that was very interesting.

I use to put salt on everything, I was a salt junky! These days I barely use any salt at all. I will still put salt on things like roast potatoes or chips etc on the odd occasion that I have them or when I add coarse salt to steaks or burgers before I cook them. If you eat processed foods or take aways those things already contain a lot of salt.

Excessive salt intake is also not good for your health. I just started using less salt as I got older and not due to health scares, think your palette changes.

I can second this - I have tried cutting out as much salt and sodium out of my diet as I can manage, as well as sugar. It is very difficult for the first few weeks, but soon you get used to the bland taste and now I can't even stomach salty food or sweet things anymore and my taste is getting better without adding salt.

My blood pressure has come down significantly since and I feel generally better all day. I also used to wake up 2 or 3 times a night to drain the lizard, but now I don't anymore.

There are also good substitutes to adding salt to all your food. Try pepper, chilli and vinegar when you are craving something salty. A good dash of balsamic can pickup just about any bland dish without making it taste like vinegar.

Packet soup - in my view, these are nothing more than packets of sodium and unhealthy chemicals that have almost zero nutritional value. It is mostly corn starch with salt and MSG added. The flavours are fake and the 'real herbs n spices' are nothing more than dried thyme or basil and do not count as vegetables!

If you like soups, then I would try some of the suggestions already made.
