Is anyone else experiencing the EXTREMELY irritating problem, where some pages will not be found? I am particularly finding this with www.hp.com, hp.co.za, compaq.com, yahoo.com, and some others.

I have spoken to my ISP, and to Telkom, and guess what, no one can even think of a place to start looking.

anyone else... typical ADSL [:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

Are you capped? I can open www.hp.com easily.

Quicky. Are you trying to access via a shared ADSL concetion ? (ICS)

I am not capped - I can get to any other international site, except those.

I am using a Planet ADSL router, I have even rebooted that - if it had a button, I think I would have broken it already.

What DNS is everyone using, and is there a proxy server or something else I should be using?

Also, is everyone else also ping the same IP address, or could this be my problem?

What do you mean by "Ping same address?

All day I have been getting this for the site www.teranews.com

Gateway Timeout
The following error occurred:
Code:
A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request.

Please contact the administrator.

Other users can open it fine, so whats up?

Shr@pnel, when I try open hp.com, I get

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Something is wrong - could it be the cache servers.

Is everyone using the DNS servers 196.25.1.1 and 196.25.1.9?

thats the same I am getting, try go to www.3com.com and see if that works, or lexmark.com.

I had the same problem(gateway timeout) using ADSL connection with one of my regular overseas sites. I then used a dial-up link and accessed the site without a problem. After contacting Telkom ADSL support, I convinced the guy to look at the problem and he came back 15 minutes later saying that it was a cache problem and since then all is fine with that site.

I have been explained that this can accure if u dont have the right DNS inputed or do not have one inputed at all go to the www.saix.co.za site and get ur dns addys , they sorted that problem out for me , to check ur current DNS go click start Run NSlookup itll show u ur current , DNS hope this helps i had some problems confugureing this stuff espeshilly when i was playing around with the marconi router ... make shure u change the name servers put ur dns addys in there and do the same were it requests ur dns addys

I have changed my DNS a couple of times, and the current one off nslookup is 196.43.1.14 - and I still have the same problem - I have to admit, I am very sure that it is a caching thimg on Telkom's side - but does anyone think that Telkom will admit to any problem on there side??

I dunno guys - this is very frustrating - and you wanna know whats the worst - while I am trying to do some decent stuff, my girlfriend is trying to play some games on yahoo.com or something, and it doesn't work either - can you see what I have to deal with now [B)]

Today everything is fine again, and I have done nothing more than go to bed and wake up. No reboot, no reset, nothing. This tells me the problem lies on telkoms side, and I suspect its the cache server, and ernstn's call made the difference.

This is frustrating to say the least.
