Do Macbooks not have these keys? Is there an alternative?

The ctrl right click is darn annoying btw :D

Aaah thanks. Some more questions, since the "delete" button replaces the "backspace" button, is there a delete button? (meaning it deletes instead of backspaces?)

Another question.. when I press my center mouse button (the mouse wheel) why does the window become blue? (I gave up on the no right click button, so have plugged in a normal mouse for a right click)

I also cant find an "apple" key? Perhaps its the one that says "option" on it?

So far theres only one positive thing I can say about a Macbook and OSX.. it has an amazing battery life.

Fn + Backspace = Delete

I'm not sure what the blue screen is. Go to your Mouse preferences and see what the configuration is there. Could be Expose.

You can right click with the mighty mouse just enable it under preferences, also to right click with the trackpad you can enable a 2 finger tap.

You still haven't dumped OSX? hmm looks like we have a convert....

I am not trying to start a war here, but why on earth is right click not enabled by default and how can there not be one button for page up and down, or delete?

For Apple users who have not adopted windows?
Apple's main users do things with a single click and the menubar.

The keyboard can be replaced with a windows keyboard, the apple user does not need all those keys if he has RTFM.

Seriously? That infuriated me when using a Mac. I guess if it is all you have been exposed to, you get used to it.

I have to customize windows the first time too, turn off UAC, disable retarded services and a few other things.

On my mac I customize my trackpad and mouse first time and it does not bother me after that. Just need to have an open mind.

Fair enough.

Just to an admittedly biased Windoze user, it seems that the things one has to do to get a Mac to work nicely are not random things like UAC (not an issue on Win7 btw) but key things like right click. And learning to get used to not having a page up or down key. I use that quite a lot.

Nope, my Toshiba runs circles around my Macbook...

To be honest, the only reason I am keeping MacOSX on there and forcing myself to use it, is so I am forced to learn the OS and all its quirks for my professional life, and I dont deal with all things mac from a position of ignorance.

I dont like it.. its like a dull version of Linux that runs dull versions of Office and cool applications like Adobe Photoshop... but what I like and what my clients like are often two different things. Like with Linux and all the MS versions... I want to know how the OS works the hard way. Through practical usage.

My Mac is my spare notebook or my "going out" (ie, when I need limited functionality) notebook. On a side note, at the coffee shop I spent most of the afternoon/evening at with friends... all of them had macbooks like mine. Lol. I saw one normal laptop (there were about 8 macs).

OK, I was just kidding though...

Personally I don't have a favourite I like my macbook but mainly use it for Music no other use for it since I use Linux.

They could give you more buttons but it would come at a price :D

They would also be quite unnecessary. fn+up/down works fine, especially since u r on a small keyboard. On the desktop keyboard they have included delete, pageup and page down. Also the fact that cmd left/right arrow does home and end is AMAZING (since the buttons arent these tiny little buttons that you can barely press in some arb corner of the keyboard)...

At work i have a dell laptop (have to use windows, working on getting linux on db) and i find my self trying all the awesome mac shortcuts. To hit alt+f4 means i must completely move my fingers from my standard typing position, while on a mac a i need to do is hit cmd+q and to close a window is cmd+w. The fact that cmd+w also doesn't kill the app just closes the window is also awesome!

Like firefox has cntrl+w to close a window, but when i close the last window it kills firefox, then i have to start it again to get a new window... wtf, makes no sense at all.

I think once u learn all the shortcuts on a mac, you will be quite happy with the way everything works... like cmd+ shift + [ or ] to jump tabs in firefox is actually easier than cntrl + tab as cntrl requires a bit of a shift of your hand, while cmd and shift dont really. (This is my opinion of the shortcuts though, and i have become so dependent on them i struggle without them).

w1z4rd, remember cmd + space, that is one amazing feature on the mac. Also try cntrl+alt+cmd+eject for quit all apps and shut down, i like that a lot too.

Ah, so that is a Macbook thing, not a make thing. Makes sense. My lappie does not have page up and down keys either I don't think.

If you really want to immerse yourself, get rid of the mouse and learn the trackpad.
The trackpad is the most fantastic thing about a mac laptop. Two finger scrolling is a lot more useful than page-up, page-down.
Think - what is the simplest way to do this? Then try it. Option is a MODIFIER key. Try it with most actions and see what difference it makes. Try option dragging the time machine icon from the toolbar for starters

Now that you mention scrolling - being able to scroll underlying windows is one feature I miss when I'm using my non-mac machines - anyone know how to duplicate it on Ubuntu and W7?

What do you mean by underlying windows?

Yea, this is another thing that kills me at work.

hj2k_x - If you have a window open in the background it doesnt have to be the "active" or "selected" window for you to be able to scroll. All you have to do is have your mouse over the window and scroll.

I hope that makes sense. Think over lapping windows, but you can see the a bit of the one at the back. you can scroll the window at the back or the one in the front, depending on which window your mouse sits.

Just to be clear, if i plug the big keyboard into my macbook, then all the functions on the big keyboard works. This is where it becomes useful to create both the hardware and the software.
