So it seems that Blizzard is in the process of enabling paid faction transfers.
I doubt it will happen in patch 3.2 but hopefully they get all the glitches worked out because I have a 80 Tauren Druid who really wants to move to PVP server where I have an alliance character.
I would pay good money to do this.

Perhaps the biggest news in the past week -- aside from 'Cataclysm', that is -- hasn't been Patch 3.2 itself but a service Blizzard has apparently been working on for some time. Paid faction changes. We received quite a number of tips about it and even saw our story make a cameo on Attack of the Show. Players have been asking for something like this for a while, and there have been incidents of entire guilds rerolling from scratch to defect.

Of course, with the shocking news comes a lot of questions, so Nethaera hops on over to the forums and answered a few concerns that players had. The biggest bummer for me was that I couldn't change race within my own faction! So... let me get this straight... I can change faction and become a totally different race but I can't swap my Blood Elf Death Knight into an Orc? Blasphemy! Unfortunately Blizzard doesn't think choice of race isn't something you can regret unlike faction choice. Anyway, more answers after the jump...

Q. Will we be able to switch between the races on our own faction?
A.. No. Players will only be able to switch to a race of the opposite faction.

Q. Will I be able to choose the race on the opposite faction that I want to change to?
A.. Yes, but you will only be able to switch to a race that has your class type available to it. So if you play a human paladin, you'd only be able to change to a blood elf paladin.

Q.How much will it cost?
A.. We do not have further information on this at this point in time.

Q.Will I be able to switch back to my original faction but a different race?
A.. No. You will only be able to switch back to your originally chosen race.

Q.. How will the switch between reputation, gear, mounts, etc be handled?
A.. We'll have more details for you at a later point in time, though we plan to keep these as close to a reflection of the other faction as much as possible.

Q.How often can you change your faction?
A.. We do not have any information to share on this at this point in time, however we will have restrictions on the frequency by which players can change their faction.

Q. How will this affect the balance of Horde and Alliance on the realms?
A.. We are taking great care in how we implement this new service in order to maintain balance between the factions on the realms but do not have any further details to share.

Odd how they won't allow race changes as part of paid character customization when faction change obviously creates a bigger impact on the playing environment. Then again, Blizzard may just be wary of players jumping to another race to min-max, such as all PvP players hopping on to Humans for that extra trinket slot. Oh well. Stay tuned!

The thought of being a mighty Tauren Beefcake and going through a sex change to become a MJ NE .....

I think Jase was being sarcastic...

OT : This to me stinks of fail... Really. Its just another way of milking money really. Its just lame.

I would much rather be able to change race within Horde... its not cool having a UD Priest and a UD Warlock...

I like it. It gives me the opportunity to see what the Horde world is like without having to re-roll.

It also means that a guild that is traditionally an alliance guild can all transfer together as a horde guild, and enjoy the game from the other perspective.

Epic kill the king battles between two previously friendly guilds can result. It adds a new dimension to the game.

It does not take anything away from the game, except for your money, but it's too late to start moaning about that (the money) now.

OK I'm a bit slow today. (Sarcasm filter now on)

I have no problem with the money. If you don't want to pay then don't do it. Blizzard are here to make money after all.

If they could add in a US to EU transfer system as well I would be over the moon. Then all my toons from the US could join the EU family.

I just have this mental barrier when it comes to NEs. The Shadowmeld is cool, but those ears and that crotch grabbing dance just doesn't do it for me.

Other than that, I have np with them doing faction changes, it means I can xfer $$$ gold with a toon and give alliance a whirl.

Wonder if they will allow Horde and Alliance on same realm (PvP).

If that is the case, I might xfer my Priest to Alliance Dwarfy :>

I think this is an awsome idea. I have a L62 NE Druid and started playing Horde. I enjoyed my NE but really don't want to have to start again so this might work nicely for me.

I think they are doing this cuz the game is steadily dying out. This breathes some new life into already existing content, and will most probably have some old players return and swop around. You can basically take any toon anywhere now. Imagine all the apps Ensidia and those top end guilds will get when they recruit :P

Every time a new patch get released the "WoW is dying out". Give links to prove it please.

Blizzard has made WoW easier, no doubt about that but with it being easier it has attracted a whole new "generation" of players. People who don't want to spend 6 nights a week to see end game as well as people who are drawn to the social aspect of the game. Our guild has grown significantly in the last few months. There are people leaving for various reasons but for every person who leaves 2 more join.

with 80 lvl's now, the game play has to change.

Horde population is generally lower than alliance. I guess Blizz are hoping this will encourage alliance high level players to switch. I have 4 alliance lvl 80's. I have considered switching to horde, but couldnt be arsed to grind from lvl 1 again without support from a lvl 80 main. Maybe i would move one. Or even my lvl 75 priest.

Just for PVP I would transfer my alliance chars to the Horde side.

But, but... I can come and camp with you then! We can even watch the sun set over Stormwind harbour!

BWahaha... in all honesty... I tried to sneak into stormwind the other day... damn I got shred to pieces in there.

Hmmm, I have a Belf hunter that needs a race change (I actually stopped playing her 'cause she is a Belf). Slap a few thousand gold on her and send off to ally land, perhaps as a Dorf....

use your flying mount and land on the stormwind boat leaving from borean tundra lot less people at the docks than the front gate and AH work smarter not harder :p mountig up on your ground mount b4 you get to stormwind docks also help lots

Entering from Ironforge is also possible, though may be a bit more running. Problem is though that there are plenty of ally kids in the cities just waiting for a horde to run in. Horde side this is much easier, and I have done plenty of fishing inside the horde towns ;)
