Hi guys,

So the paint on my bonnet is starting to peel and I want to look at getting it resprayed since the car is paid off and I have no intention of selling it anytime soon. My biggest concern is that I get it resprayed and then it looks all shiny and new while the rest of the car now looks faded and dull. Is this damage more superficial? Maybe it's the lacquer and not so much the paint itself? What would a respray set me back and would insurance cover it?

Your insurance wont cover that. For a decent respray you can look at anything between R20K - R30K, depending on size of vehicle.

If you don't intend on changing cars and do mind the peeling, go for it. But make sure it's done by a professional

it's the clear coat that's peeling off, unfortunately the is no way of removing the clear coat and spraying on a new one, the whole bonnet must be resprayed.

Panel beaters - proper ones - don't just punch in a factory code and spray on the colour the computer spits out. Half the art of decent body repair is colour matching. Have it done properly and you won't know the bonnet's been sprayed by looking at it. Expect a figure upwards of R8k though as a minimum.

Respray the bonnet and let them fade it in and do other areas where needed like the roof & bumper usually. It'll cost a pretty penny & insurance wont pay for it.

Whack a brick at your bonnet, say it fell off a truck on the highway and claim from insurance?
