Paleo Diet

I think it'd be fine you will just have to make sure you enough food to ensure you maintain satisfactory calorie, and fat intake.

Thought back in those days humans only lived to be 25-30...

Is there any real evidence that:

a) Our distant ancestors actually ate McDonalds?
b) The McDonalds diet is healthy.

Come now. Seriously. Eating non processed foods / fruit and veg is clearly a healthy / healthier option. You can be damn sure your distant ancestors didn't eat all the processed foods we do today.

I'm not disputing that fresh, unprocessed food is healthier than processed junk food. I'm questioning the veracity of the claims that our ancestors ate a very meat-heavy diet with no carbs AND that said diet is even healthy in the first place.

Why do people assume that you eat mostly meat and no carbs on paleo? I eat the same amount of carbs as I always used too, but now only in fruits and mostly vegetables (10 servings/day). And it has made all the difference. I used to be overweight and sluggish all my life and since I changed my diet to roughly 95% paleo, I am lean, have more energy and I feel so much better. And I exercise less now.

I dont neccesarily agree that this is the way that all our ancestors ate, which is obviously not true but come on they definately did not eat all the processed crap that most people do today. Maybe I am one of those people who just happens to have a intolerance towards milk and gluten?

For people looking for scientific evidence I will highly recommend you read Wheat belly by William Davis and Smarter Science of slim by Jonathon Bailor. The last book has countless studies and data that completely changed the way I think about nutrition and my body. If you're not looking to lose weight at least just read the Harvard studies he published, invaluable when it comes to nutrition and how our bodies respond to the food we eat. BTW, not one of these books ever mention Paleo, but the diets they recommend are 95% the same as Paleo.

Since my first post I've changed my eating habits a lot. Thought I'd give it a try for a month and I feel really good after one week :)

I've cut out all sugar treats, bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, dairy and legumes.

I now eat veggies mostly roots like carrots, onions, sweet potatoes. More fruits like apples, kiwi, avocados. Basically lots of salads as well. More eggs and about the same meat intake and more nuts and berries.

It's also interesting to cook this way. You got to be a bit more creative for lunch and dinner but it's fun. :)

@ OP & nakedpeanut - I can't remember the authors but there is a great cookbook called Well Fed. Amazing and creative recipes - also includes desserts and things like mayonaise etc. that really makes eating paleo that much more easier and fun.

Its a challenge but its great in my opinion. I lost 12KGs in just over 2 months and that was in the middle of last year. Im still going strong! If i feel like a pizza i will eat it, but that just means that i wont eat much other carbs throughout the day and i have to be good for the next x days. I will admit that December was a bit of a hard one(I went up 2KGs) but those are already gone.

Its definitely not only a meat diet... Just means getting your carbs from places other than SUGAR or WHEAT!!

Anyhow glad you sticking to it! Well done and keep going!
