A question to MTN ...

Vodacom's got exclusive rights the the iPhone ... MTN subscribers can't get it. The Palm Pre will be going the same exclusive distro route. A 3G version of this phone will follow soon after the EV-DO release. Can MTN secure this as an exclusive for it's subscribers (for a change)?

Since MTN have never had a Palm device... Ever. It seems unlikely.
No doubt we can expect it to be a Vodafone exclusive and yet another rip-off price.
Although it's worth mentioning that Cell C have the Palm Centro, so perhaps they might get it, that would actually be quite nice if they did.

Take consolation in the fact that MTN beta test a phone on their network first. If it meets MTN's standards to work on their network, then they will include it in their lineup of devices.

I 2nd that - MTN could get this anti-iPhone and push it BIG in SA!

The Pre really is that good - the GSM version should be launched at GSMA in Feb, so let's wait until then! Just hope they give it a matte paint job and throw in a microSD slot - c'mon Palm - you're not Apple!

But we should only be getting the Pre end of the year at the earliest...

And just saw the Cell C Centro ad - I'm so trading in my Treo 750 to get one - Palm OS I'm coming back home!!!

MTN DD,

Can't you put in a word for the consumer here? What are the chances that you can motivate for MTN to get the exclusive rights to market the Palm Pre on contract (obviously after all the beta testing)? All the folk (along with MTN DD) in the know and that can help influence the powers that be, can we ask you to see if you can help motivate for this phone to be exclusive to MTN?

TIA

I hope someone at MTN reads this.

I would also like to return home as chris2.0 said. I started with Palm when it was still USRobotics. Palm is like Nintendo for me.

The big boys must be looking at Palm with new eyes now ... so a take-over bid should not surprise anyone. The Pre and Pro are excellent devices, and webOS sounds like a good mobile platform (using what's already easily available/accessible).
