Hi .I have rented a car on monthly basis from one of top/major rental companies in South Africa .....now, it has a dent on the side (pic attached )..I pay around 3k rand per month for the excess insurance.., so i think this should be covered in that...from what i searched on internet , cost for my type of dent appears to be around 2-3k rand.

Now , I will be using this car probably for next couple of months also ..I am confused whether I should report it now to the car rental company..?..if I do this, will they take the car back and repair it for few days and then give back to me or repair it on same day and give back to me or will they give me another car..?.anyone having some experience on this .?..

I personally think that they might take car back for repair and I won't be able to use it for some days (I need car everyday), so i am thinking that when i will be returning back the car after next 2 months (when moving out of SA), then i will just inform that the accident happened at a later date (just few days before return) and also if they demand any extra charge, I can just pay them by credit card and then chargeback the card, so these things (fighting for money) will also be easier then...

But then , I read that if you leave a dent as it is, it deepens and oxidises/rusts , and so rental company might not take my claim as they could tell me that I didn't inform them earlier..however, again I personally feel that they won't be able to exactly tell when the dent took place and most probably believe in my story that accident happened at a later stage.. ....however, I may be completely wrong in what I think and hence asking you guys for advice..

Tell them you wish to upgrade to a car that has higher specifications, then trade in the current one.

This will negate the repair turnaround time issue for you.

Now, whichever car you choose to trade the current one in for, make sure it has a higher ground clearance.

Also make sure you take out the highest level of insurance cover on the replacement car.
