panic attacks

I also thought is a joke and how can one die but after the ordeal I changed my mind in a flash. The term "panic attack" is a bit of a miss-nommer. In our case they were triggered by stroke damage to the part of the brain which controls the hormon level in the blood. In particular adrenaline. My nice was not afraid or anything as one expects someone in panic. She was just shaking uncontrollably all over and her heart was doing close to 180bpm and were very powerfull beats! I have a level 3 first aid course and I was there but could not figure out WTF is going on. By the time we got her to the hospital she already passed out but was breathing albeit very shallow and quick and was sweating. Her pulse was now erratic and weak. Within the hour it was all over. The cardiologist said that her and she burst a heart valve completely and damaged the other one. She basically passed away while they were frantically busy doing all sorts of tests. She just turn 51 a week and 4 days earlier. Panic attacks can have many reasons. Some of them may indeed be harmles while others can snow ball into a monster. I for one learned it the hard way. I hope this helps someone out there.

Sad story bra , condolances .I would give you a condolances high five on the pc screen.:)

Do you need a prescription for beta blockers?

Yes afaik. A lot of singers/artists also use it to calm their nerves before a show, but it isn't a solution to a problem, it's just something that alleviates a symptom. I have to be on it or else I'm extremely nervous and anxious with trembling. I'm on a beta blocker that was the first successful one created way back in time, but it still works :)

HAHAHA

**Condolence Five**

I just watched that episode of HIMYM and I lolled hard now. Sorry for that.

I would suggest the OP Go to a physician and have a good ol check over to put your mind at ease. After that smoke a fat bowl, pop two myprodols, and chill out.

I found a book called The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook to be really helpful in learning to cope with and eventually (almost) eliminate panic attacks - I haven't had one for years now, so I suggest that.

First step though is the doctor to ensure there is no biological cause that can be easily treated. Many people that experience panic attacks are physically healthy though, as I am, and the book mentioned above helped me a lot.

I also suffer from panic attacks and would just like to add: first things first you should definitely speak to your doctor and do some tests to make sure it's not something physically wrong - you will also feel much better knowing this.

Also, I always keep some mild tranquilizer with me, this helps in 2 ways
1. If I have a panic attack I just take 1-3 depending on the severity
2. Just the fact of knowing that you have them with you reduces the chances of having a panic attack.

It's called ativan. You can get them in a tiny tablet that you just slip under your tongue and it works quite quickly. I think the active ingredient is lorazepam (spelling?).

I'm not sure of what side effects there are if any but AFAIK you need a prescription anyway so ask the doc if it's ok for you first.
