Parallels anti virus

and its free . . . as in beer! :D

There is something funny in installing an AV on a mac. I have heard excellent things about this parallels... but an AV on a mac (I understand the need for it), but it is still a little funny :)

Ah but you're only installing it in the virtual machine so it's ok :D

I know, but still.. hehe. I hope they can port parallels over to linux. I think the only time MacOS or *nix will be able to compete with Windows as a desktop is the day I can play all my games on them correctly.

I really hope that day is soon.

That day is here - if you cant play the game in Parallels bootcamp offers 100% native Windows with full driver support. :) Bootcamp and parallels can even share the same windows install.

Besides windows I have Ubuntu running under parallels - decided to give it another chance. :)

I thought linux already had various virtualisation methods available?

Ill give you R500 (jk) if you can install battlefield 2, and meet me on the SGS servers. I have tried everything I can think of to get it running on a non-windows platform. While at a push (and with a Cedega subscription) I could get bf2 to load up on Ubuntu... albeit extremely slowly and with a massive drop in performance. However, the second I joined the SGS ranked bf2 servers, punkbuster pwned me.

I would be extremely interested if you or someone could get that running on a mac/nix.

Under bootcamp it is 100% windows - the only mac aspect is the hardware - so if bf2 will run on a 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2gb ram and an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM then it will run on my macbook pro.

I dont have windows installed on this machine and I'm not sure if my mini's specs are worth my trying it but we'll see. ;)

Does bootcamp use all the hardware? Or is it like similar programs, that create virtual hardware?

I am going to upgrade me HD in the macbook soon - just a question, I presume that parallels can use a bootcamp partition and not the other way round. Meaning I will have to install WinXP under bootcamp before I install parallels and point it to the bootcamp installation (am i right here?)

I've wondered the same thing myself but as far as I can tell your parallels needs to share an existing xp installation.

EDIT - looks possible - http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=6433

There is a free ClamAV for Mac OS X available for download. You can have free native Mac OSX antivirus protection, not that there are any Mac viruses
out there, the protection is only there for the benefit of Windoze systems (so you don't forward a virus to your Windoze buddies, one which was sent to you from another PC).

Ummm - It looks easier to reinstall the whole thing under BC and then share with ||'s :)
Yeah - I was thinking the exact same thing. Install on bootcamp . . . then share. :)

This thread is already derailed, so I might as well post here :D

Our company poilcy finally allows me to use my MBP as a work notebook. I am going to reinstall my WinXP from scratch, so I need to make a decision: WinXP in Bootcamp to share with ||s (which is the direction I am leaning towards) or again straight in ||s. What do you guys think?

Shared bootcamp partition. Gives you the option of running the os natively.
