Hello all,

I was almost too embarrassed to pop up this thread - but then I got over myself...

Bought a MacUpdate package today, primarily for DevonThink Pro. It had Parallels Desktop included.

The concept (of the latter) has always intrigued me.

I'm running a mid-2012 MBP with 8GB Ram - so figure it should be able to handle the switching...

Problem is - the only "original" Windows software I have, is Windows XP... [try not to laugh too much :) ]...

So I guess you can see where this is going... Is there any point?

I mean, would XP allow me to run Office 2010/2011/2012? [Not that I have any Office disks lying around - but will worry about that later...]

Incredibly silly question no doubt - but I've never really had to think about anything like the above before...

Any comments welcome...

Oh - and as for why - no really good reason. Loving OS X, but I still have some ancient PC games lying around, that might be fun on my Mac... Cannot really think of anything else, other than I have it, so might as well give it a swing...

Aw shucks. The kid in me got impatient.... :P

Installing XP as I type this...

Talk about a blast from the past...

Now to get some of those Sierra games going... :)

According to this chart you should be OK up to Office 2010.

Although ... why? Office for Mac doesn't leave you to the ribbon's tender mercies. It retains the menu.

Thanks for that link.

I doubt I'll go that route, if at all. If I had too, I would dabble with OneNote (although "Outliner" should have an editor up and running soon) - since I use it extensively for work purposes. No biggie though - but good to know it works.

Will make things easier in getting an iMac as the family computer, since Parallels will cancel any cross-platform issues that might come our way, via the wife's workplace - and possibly the kiddies through school etc...

Only occurred to me yesterday that I can now once again log in to Windows, and plug in the old "Windows" external HDD, and make use of it again as is - without concerning myself with incompatibilities... This alone has made my Parallels aquisition worth it, and then some. Good times.
